As you can see he went and found him a nice lil spot under the rock I sat him on!!!!! smh

Why would u want to buy a bleached BTA in the first place? I have a GBTA that is going thru a bleaching phrase, but it did not get that kind of color though. Secondly, it might not be a BTA, but a LTA. I would return it to the LFS and get the money back.

Well first off, it was my money and I wanted to spend it!!!!! Second, I really wanted one with different color tips and could only find solid green ones!!!!!! The way I see it I cant complain for $15, I can spend that on green tea and honey roasted peanuts in a day!!!! lol
All I asked was for help with an ID not.........

If you really wanted to help you should have just said "I have a GBTA that is going thru a bleaching phrase, but it did not get that kind of color though. Secondly, it might not be a BTA, but a LTA."

But anyway thanks a lot!!!!! You were very helpful in your own special way!!!! lmao

Oh and I thought LTAs like to be buried in the sand????? This guy clearly likes to slide between the rocks!!!!! IMO

Well looks like you are clearly smarter than the people your asking help from...

Its a bta. It looks like *** and close to death. It moved because it wasn't happy, you can try to place it differently and hope it stays there but in the end it will move where it wants to be.

The gentleman who posted before me was hinting That maybe next time instead of jeopardizing the life of a living organism maybe take 5 minutes to read up on what signs to look for that Its healthy such as.... color.

Boy some snarly answers. I always like it when someone asks a simple question and somebody has to criticize them instead of just answering the question or not saying anything at all

Looks like a BTA to me. It doesn't look "happy", but it doesn't look "bleached" either. It appears to have plenty of zooxanthellae in it.

Agree with elegance... doesn't look very happy. Tentacles are very stubby so I would try to feed it if you can get close enough. Is it 'sticky' at all? Maybe some fine/small bits of raw shrimp or clam or scallop. Once it settles in it might move to a more convenient spot. I can't see from the pictures so is the mouth tightly closed or gaping at all?

No, he wasn't trying to help and neither or you!!!!!! Normally when I come across people like you on the net I just tell them " Go fall on a knife"!!!!!

Thank you very much!!!!

Its mouth is tight and it was sticky!!!!!! I was gonna wait a week before trying to feed him, and I'm hoping in that time he'll have already moved himself to a better location!!!!
Big thanks to the people who gave answers without the bull!!!! Lol

Well, tight mouth and sticky is a very promising sign. You're probably right, didn't know you just got it.

I'm with you... if I saw a distressed anemone for $15 I'd try to save it too. Breaks my heart to see what the LFS does to anemones... bare tank, insufficient lighting, etc. And when you say to them, "those anemones aren't healthy" they look at you like you're crazy. I told them a couple of times "your anemones are bleached" and you know what they say? They say "no they're not, they're supposed to look like that" ... :/

So good luck. I hope this one has found a happy home.

In this case, the LFS said the anemone was bleached, when it isn't. LOL Just goes to show you should never take advice from a LFS.

it could very well be a GBTA...perhaps semi-bleached?...dunno...
from ur pix I personally can make out a greenish tint and what could be light purpleish tips which could indicate it is in fact a purple tipped GBTA...

crawling under a rock in a low portion of ur tank is just a BTAs reaction to new conditions (ie: new light source) so no cause for alarm IMO...

I would def keep a watchful eye on it and perhaps in a week or so, see if it will take some small meaty food such as mysis...
if it does, than consider feeding it once a week and give it as much time as it needs to acclimate itself to ur tank....
I would not touch it or try to relocate it in any way (unless it's an emergency like getting to close to a powerhead) and let it find it's "happy place"

best of luck!
C :)

I know, right!? That's why I wrote "distressed" rather than bleached. Never ceases to amaze me how absolutely confident they can be in their assertions and how so totally wrong at the same time.:debi:

whether he bought a distressed BTA or not, it more than likely would have died at the LFS anyway, and now it might have a chance in his tank. It always makes me laugh, at how fast people like to pass judgement on others and jump at the chance to criticize, without knowing all the facts or even the person theirselves!

Man I went ahead and moved him yesterday!!! I should have just followed my first mind and let him be!!!!! He ain't looking to good this morning!!!!!!!!! Smh
I'll post pics in a min!!!!

He was doing good here all yesterday after the move!!!!!

Woke up and went to check him this morning and he had moved!!!! Somehow he got stuck to a patch of Majanos!!! I pulled him off he was looking like he got in a car wreck!!!! They flicked up bad, he needs to be in the ICU!!!!
I really hope he's not a wrap and I can nurse him back to health!!!!!

Once I grabbed him off the Majanos I put this rock in so I could keep a close eye on him!!!!!!
You can see he's hurt pretty bad, drawn all up and mouth open!!!!

If anyone has any ideas how I can help him to a good recovery please suggest something!!!!

Think like a BTA.

First, they need security. Security for a BTA means their column in a rock crevice or crack, with enough room for them to pull back completely into the rockwork if they are getting attacked. However this crack needs to be CLOSED - i.e. no holes in the back - because otherwise the anemone can be attacked from behind by crabs, worms, or whatever.

Second, they need light. But not just ANY light. They need moderately bright light that is neither too bright or too dim. Too bright and they burn, too dim and they have to extend further for lighting and it puts them at risk of being attacked. So they like a location where they extend into light, but pull back if the light is too bright. They do NOT like sitting out on a rock like a pancake like S. gigantea or H. magnifica.

Third, they need flow to bring in oxygen and prey - but not so strong that they cannot open or become damaged by excessive wave action. Moderate flow ACROSS the oral disk is what they are looking for - not flow directly AT the oral disk.

That's about it :) Look at these photos of BTA's in the wild and you'll get an idea what I'm talking about. They are rock crack anemones :)

As others have said, he is bleached (not completely, but mostly) and starving. When have you fed him last, and what did you feed?

I haven't feed him cause I just got him Thursday!!! I just did a 20% water change so I guess I'll wait and see what happens now!!!

What do you guys think, should I move him or just wait to see what he chooses to do????
I have some shrimp at the house, do you guys think I should also try feeding him a tiny piece now or just wait till he's looking better and his mouth closes????

Thanks Wyze
