Aptaisia has overrun my liverock and copperband did the trick last time. Before I go to LA, does anyone have any leads on one or have one for sale?

Elmers had a nice one last time i was up there. 45 or 50 bucks for him. Can't remember exactly. I was goin to pick him up but didn't pull the trigger

Have you tried any peppermint shrimp? Mine did the trick in my tank, I got 5 of them. If you want them I will catch and sell to you.

I like the pepermints as well. Mainly for two resons:
1. Although it takes longer for the atips to dissapear, once they're gone the shrimps still thrive on other junk as well as pelet food. Buterflies on the otherhand are vey finiky and will most likely die after all the atips are gone. Which is sad :(
2. They're cheap, both to buy and to maintain.

I tried everything from nudibranches to peppermint shrimp to take care of my aptasia problem. Both die to easily and in the long run, cost more than the Copperband Butterfly.

When the aptasia were gone, mine easily accepted mysid shrimp / rods reef food.

My Mandarin goby also eats Mysids / rods reef food.

I had a peppermint shrimp that ate the aptasia in its little area but then died cause he wouldn't leave this one rock. Seems to me the best solution is aptasia-x. Its a royal pain but it works

I bought a Copperband Butterfly about 2 weeks ago. Although he seems to be doing just fine, I have not seen any Aiptasia disappear nor have I witnessed him munching on an Aiptasia. Is this norrmal? How long would you expect before the fish starts attacking the Aiptasia?

Try a four-spot butterfly, you might have to ask a lfs to order it for you, but they are the most agressive atip eaters IMO and they're pretty hardy.

Make sure you have Atips and not MOJO's. I starved my Copperbanded thinking he would eventually get hungry and eat the Atips, but what I thought were tips were really Mojo's.

Liveaquaria has tremendous deals on Build Your Own Cleanup Crews. I know Peppermint Shrimp are hit and miss, so I bought 10 pepps from them, and it was $60 shipped to my door. Considering shipping is around $30, that's 50 cents per shrimp. Out of the 10 that I bought, probably 2 or 3 were Aip eaters, and I was clean within a few weeks.

This is after trying Aip X, Lemon Juice, Boiling Water, and a Filefish, which all failed miserably.

Many copperband butterflies are caught in areas that are still using cyanide to collect fish. It's difficult to tell in the store, but many fish caught this way die unexpectantly about a month later due to lingering effects of the poison. It's a shame because some people put a lot into trying to get them to survive, only to have this happen. I wouldn't buy one...period. Like Jared said, try a ton of peppermints.

Well, after buying the one at aquaworld and having him die overnight. I decided that I will get one online. I got one from liveaquaria and also 10 peppermint shrimp. They have been healthy since they arrived on Tuesday and the "shock and awe" assault on my aiptasia is underway. Oh and Aquaworld told me to basically go F myself when I called them the morning after I bought theirs. Never again. Scumbags.

Yea aquaworld doesn't have any type of guarantee on their fish. At least elmers give 50% back. They are the only lfs that does that i think

We would never tell anyone to go F themselves in anyway shape or form. Our warranty guidelines are posted in every isle and at the register. Typically we will give you another one at a a discounted price when available in a situation like yours. (Fish dying overnight). Please tell me what makes you label someone a "scumbag", and what do you define "scumbag" as. I don't think that we did anything wrong, you were provided with friendly and knowledgeable service during your visit. But, if you call us "scumbags" then i don't know what would be better service. According to the dictionary, the second definition of "Scumbag" is "a totally disgusting person. (Rude and derogatory.)" In your case Mark helped you out and he is probably the nicest employee that we have. But, if you think otherwise I will pass on your word to him and let him know that he needs room for improvement. PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS POST IS WRITTEN IN A NEUTRAL TONE.

I called and was told that you don't guarantee ANY saltwater fish I was not offered a solution, a discount or anything. I would have brought it back wig a water sample if you requested but that was notnthe case. I was told NO GUARANTEE on saltwater and that was end of conversation. That sounds like go f yourself to me. And when someone takes my money and leaves me with a dead fish less than 24 hours after I bought it gives me the right to use whatever words I want to. This is NOT the first time this happened to me at your store. You can try to justify all you want but be assured that I will not come back.

Coming back or not coming back is your choice and I am not persuading you in any way shape or form. I guess we are all scumbags over here, I assume that we are a nuisance in the marine aquarium community and do not contribute to the marine aquarium hobby. So us opening a store to enlarge interests in the marine aquarium hobby was worthless. So we are the worst store in the Pittsburgh area also? Right?
