blue cod grouper?

I dont think thats it..... supposedly its rare and he spent quite alot on it

food bill really wont jump that much I already buy tons of fresh seafood for my large collection of large FW fish atleast he wont be now when he gets full grown (32") he will definately be one of my biggest eaters

its a Epinephelus flavocaeruleus, Blue and yellow grouper not rare in california i have a 20 incher now and gave away my last one to a restaurant for their display tank . these guys grow very fast and you need a large tank mine now is in a 500 gallon . my old one is in a 2000 gallon at fish house vera cruz in temecula california . my understanding is the yellow fin is only when they are young , or old . it seems to disappear in mid life . also they can be mean . hard to find a home for them once they get big

in my area they are known as blue spot, or powder blue groupers. The male has the yellow tail and fin margins. I gave mine back to the lfs as he would not tolerate tankmates. fairly uncommon in my area

I dont get where you guys are getting the yellow at there isnt a spot of yellow on him.. as for the "hole the head" he has two pores on each side of his face exactly the same on both sides I think that it would be wierd if it was a symetrical disease.... I know he is gonna get big 32" max size but that is not a big fish at my house I have fish (fw) that max over 4' and quite a few of them too.. in my basement I have a 750 , 1100 , and a 150 indoor pond all FW with fish over 3' now..... oh Bill could his growth be stunted I am worried about that because he hasnt put on any length in almost a year I dont know if they are not feeding him enough or what but that kinda worries me I plan on keeping him for life so I am not worried about trying to find another home for him

I would have expected him to nearly double in size in a years time. What are you feeding him and how often? Also what size tank is he currently in?

he is still at the LFS they have had him for about a year now in a 180 I am not sure what he came out of originally but the guy who owned him has several 300+ tanks the lfs has been feeding him market shrimo and krill

Bit of a lopsided diet. Get some marine fish into the diet as well as some of the high quality commercial dry foods. Variety is key. As for frequency, I would feed till stuffed 2 to 3 times per week.
