Not sure why my clam wouldnt open or just open a little. Is it picked by my fish?? I have 2 bi-color angels and sixline wrasse.

This is also the case for my elegance coral, 2 already died and now the bigger one is also closing... please help me.

Here's a way to find out. Take an empty 2 liter soft drink bottle and cut the bottom off. Drill holes in the side for circulation. Place the bottle over the clam so the fish can't get to it. If the clam opens up...... VOILA!! There's your answer! HTH and Good Luck!

Bi-color angels are notorious for picking on LPS (like your elegance coral) and clam mantles.

good advice :)

most angels are grazer and pickers and shouldn't be trusted with clams ( or corals ). many times they appear to be getting along just fine then one day the fish snaps and starts picking and once they start they usually don't stop.

most angels pick at clams. you get lucky some times with reef safe angels but if they ever find out that they are yummie remove them fast or you will have some clams as fish food in your tank.

Thanks, i have tried separate the clam from the fish but clam is still closed all the time?? same for the elegance coral, it just opened a little but would not fully expand like before....

you need to choose....clam or fish. Bring the other back to the LFS or to a different tank.

Sorry but clams can stress from just the shadow of the fish over it - especially after having been nipped at.

and pretty much all angels are like this with a few exceptions.

Now we need to know other things about your tank. Such as what are your water parameters? What are your Ca, and Alk levels at? What kind of lighting do you have? How long has your tank been set up? Any of these things can have an effect on clams.

So, if the calm is open but the mantle is retracted, say my flame angel is picking at the mantle..., will the clam survive, or will he be toast until I get rid of one or the other?

Thanks,
Dave

the fish wont stop and the clam will eventually die unless you remove one.
