Hey guys I am in the process of getting info together for my new tank build. Right now I have Gulf Stream Customs looking into building this dream of mine. It's all pretty much figured out but the closed loop and holes. This is where I need your help.

The tank is 84 long by 36 wide by 24 high..roughly 315g. It will have one large over flow on the outside back of the tank to keep it clean on the inside.

What do you suggest for the closed loop? How many holes, and where would you do it?

Thanks a bunch!

PS. It's braceless and will be starfire glass. :D

I have something similar (96x31.5x25 rimless and starphire) - click the red house if you want to see pictures. Mine is made of 3/4" glass, and I would assume yours would be also.

I decided against a closed loop system and went with an all Tunze circulation setup. In a big tank, I don't think it's very intrusive.

But if you definitely want a closed loop, are you going to be using an OM unit?

Other large rimless tanks I've seen with closed loops have been made by AGE with their signature PVC bottom. I'd feel much better about drilling PVC than many times in 3/4" glass.

I have a 84x24x30...265....3/4" glass. I laminated an additional 1/4" sheet to the bottom of my tank and then drilled 8 holes in the bottom for a closed loop and 4 holes for overflows and returns. All holes are 1 3/4". They are basically evenly spaced thru out. I I used over 300lbs of lead to press the glass together and I walked on the bottom at the same time..over 500lbs...no problems. I really dont think the laminate was needed but it was only $100 more or less. Placement of the holes and direction of the nozzel is important...but the pump is probably the most important in my opinion. Get more than you think you need and turn it down, you cant turn em up if it is not enough..good luck.
