Need help! SPS wont open

HI
I have a 90 gallon mix reef for more then a year now but everytime i add a sps coral it open. After a month the coral dies or looks like it dries out?
any ideas what can i do??

I have a led lights, mp40 and mp10, tunze wave box, swc 160 skimmer.

water paramets from last night

SG: 1.025
Temp: 79

pH: 8.41
Ammonia: 0
Nitrite: 0
Nitrate: 0
Phosphates: 0

Alkalinity:10
Calcium: 430
Magnesium: 1300

use RODI water, 10% change everyweek, GFO and carbon.

I dont have an angel fish or any other predator that would eat the polips.

I think i answered all potential questions so if i am missing something please advise.

What Kind of LED's?Is your Temperature Consistently 79, Have you had an Alkalinity Seing lately, or salinity Swing?
 
I have rapid led leds. I have DA controller so my temp is always stable i also have dual dosing pump for alk and calcium. I didnt have any swings everything is really stable.
 
Man this is sucks, have you tried some easy sps to start out with like a bridsnest? How long are your lights on for? Can you think of anything leaching into the water like a rusted screw or a penny? Is there any chemical warfare going on with the softies?:

I know every time i buy sps it opens for a day or two and after that the polyps are gone! I did start with the basics sps nothing fancy. my lights are on for about 9-10 hours but i have 5 strips so they are all on for about 5 and after that slowly changing to actinic for an evening view.
I cant think about anything leaching into the water. my softies are doing good i have also two maxima clams that are doing great.
 
How many watts are your LEDs?

What brand fixture is it? There are LEDs that are not intense enough for SPS.
 
Not being an LED user I'm not certain, but that should be enough light. Hopefully a LED expert can chime in.

If you think something may be leaching into the tank you can run some GAC or a Polypad.
You probably should run something considering you have softies.
 
Yeah that does make you wonder if your lights are too strong and just bleach them right out because it sounds like you water is fine and there's really no other reason

I only run all leds for like 3 hours after that they slowly turn off. and run just actinic for the evening
 
Do you feed your corals having 0 nitrates sometimes isnt the best because your stripping all their food. My nitrates are at about 5 and sps have full polyp extension look into that.
 
this is strange do you have any pictures of dead or dying coral?

what kind of lighting is your lfs using, mine has really bad lighting so when i come home with new coral i ususally have to light acclamate for a couple days (i also run crees)

if this was a temp or salinity issue the clams would not be doing well..how are they? got a pic?

if it was a low nutrient issue your softies would not be doing well...how are they? what kind are they? got pics?

have you and any noticible growth in your clams if youve had them for a while this could be an indicator of proper long term Alk and Ca

if everything related to water quality is okay it only leaves lighting

next time you get a piece of coral dim your lights by 50% for and ramp them back over a week, i also run LED's, if you have them at 100% chances are you are bleaching the new coral, most LFS dont have very good lighting

Hi sorry for long response. My clams are doing great and i havent seen any changes with my softies. I will take a few pics tonight and you can tell me what you think. next time i will dim my lights when i buy new coral and see if there is any difference.

Try taking the gfo and carbon off line for a while and feed those guys. Btw if the water color has a tinge of yellow the sps could be reacting to the chemical defenses of the lps. Also a full tank shot would help.

I will do that next after dimming the lights. I will take some new pics today.
