Hi Shawna, I hope all is well but if not ive got a couple questions for ya. Is your entire thumb numb or most parts Ie. sides of the thumb and the tip and under the nail? Any pain in the rest of your hand. Any pain when grasping such as a steering wheel, pen or knob? If any of these are symptoms I would say it is either a bruised or damaged nerve or nerve ending usually near the base of your thumb near the wrist. Unfortunately nerve tissue is the slowest healing tissue in your body. If this is the case it could take some time for the feeling to return. Your neurologist will probably tell you this but I would get a jump on it now. Make sure your getting a proper portion of B12 even if you have to supplement your diet or take a B12/B6 pill. If you can get just B12 that would be best. Its hard to over do it on B12 but easy to over do B6. B12 is an essential vitamin in the repair and maintenance of your bodies electrical impulses ( nerves ) Also start taking daily, a mild anti inflammatory such as Ibuprofen or Advil. Since you cant feel the thumb hard to tell if it is being overworked. The Advil will keep any swelling down allowing the correct flow of fluids to where the healing needs it most. This will most likely be the Physicians advise as an injury like that can only be healed by the body with time. If its some other ailment than there would be no harm done by this type of treatment. as long as you dont chase the B12 and Advil with vodka youll be OK
