Need help with new LTA

Hello,

I got a new LTA 4 days ago, it has yet to attach it's foot. I dug a hole for it and surrounded it with rocks placed it and filled around the hole base with sand. I know nems are picky and like to move and I've left him alone to find his spot...

The problem is he won't attach. He is either laying on his side under the rock ledge or upside down under the rock ledge. Some other considerations, I bought 2 clarkiis that were being hosted by him in the lfs. Initially, I put the nem in the tank and the clowns in another tank to let him settle in, after lots of laying upside down and on his side under the rock ledge. I re-placed him in a spot dug down to the glass surrounded by small rocks and introduced the clarkiis. Same results. .. clarkiis are being hosted but he worked himself out of the hole and is under the ledge again. See picture. So my question is, is he shying from the lights? Since it's much stronger than the lfs lights? (High power LEDs) or is something else wrong? I see no damage to his foot. Water params are perfect, have two other nems and zoas thriving. He accepted some shrimp a couple times but its hit and miss sometimes he lets it go...

My main concern is why hasn't he attached somewhere?

Thanks in advance.

I've found that LTAs are more difficult to initially attach than bubbletips. Yes, my bubbletips move about a bit, but nonetheless do attach quickly. Not sure how representative my experience is, but my LTAs like being in the light, but won't endure as much current as my bubbletips. Could your water flow be the issue here?

How deep is your sandbed?
My LTA also needed help with burrow procedure.
I was planting it into cup with sand, but it needed to have some rocks around, otherwise by pumping its leg always turned upside down.
She inflate leg to ball shape during this, so she need support on sides to not fall down.

I just bought 2 LTAs 10 days ago. They were attach their feet on the glass/sand from day one. what I did were turning the current and light to the minimum for a few hours. Once they were attached, I turned the current and light back.
Hope this help.

Thanks for the replies guys! I have about 4" sand bed. I placed small rocks around when I placed it and covered the base. I try turning off the powerheads lights after I finish work tonight and try to place him again. The flow isn't very strong where I placed him. The other problem is last time those d*mn clarkiis did their rub the sand around his base thing and dug him up pretty quickly. I didn't think the flow was that strong there but it's about the only thing I haven't tried. I'll update tomorrow with pics if successful.

Thanks everyone!

intro the led lighting slowly - in my experience lta's are more sensitive to high light. it will take some time for the lta to adjust. he will find a spot :-)
keep us updated

hi guys, update on the LTA. He finally attached but he attached sideways up high on one of the rocks I surrounded his spot with... so it doesn't look as pretty as I'd like and I can't cover his base with sand :( But all in all he's doing fine and is healthy, and hosting the clarkiis.

I ended up just digging his hole again and putting taller rocks around and pointing all the powerheads completely away from him for a while.

Thanks for the advice everyone!

I'll try to get a pic to post when I get home tonight.

Unfortunate update :( he didn't make it. He released from the rock and it seems my flame angel had a go at his column. .. it was tore open. I gave hime the rest of the day but his tentacles shrank and his insides started coming out had to pull him before he nuked the tank...

I'm real sorry man that's unfortunate. Mines fairly bleached I just got it out of a cave it was hiding in. I'm trying to care for it carefully so it will pull through but I will also keep my eye on it so it don't nuke my tank that would be triple worse lol if that's even a sensible comment
