Need ideas for adding protein skimmer to system with no room in sump

I have a 210 tank with a fuge that is 36" long and no space for a skimmer. I am thinking about building a side tank/sump for the skimmer that will have a pump supplying it water from the sump and a over flow back into the sump. Has anyone tried this and has pictures possibly?

you can do that with an external recirculating skimmer, this would be good for your tank. You wouldn't need a 2nd sump but a stand to put the skimmer on

Is there any fail safes if the cup overflows? trying to avoid a flooding.

Yes, get an Octopus waste collector from Coralvue. You can have peace of mind knowing that when it fills up, it will shut off skimmer, or empty it weekly like I do. Here is one of mine -

You can get a external collection chamber that has a float switch that will shut off your skimmer . Reef octopus makes one

Awesome! Thanks for the info, makes me happy i dont need to add on another tank and deal with that mess. Any chance you can tell me how tall the outlet pipe is? (ill need to make sure its higher than my sump water level). also the outlet pipe size so i can order up some uniseals with the skimmer?

I would make a stand so the skimmer is above your sump and plumb some PVC so the exit water is gravity fed back into your sump
