Need New Light

How do I upgrade my brand new nano cube DX without destroying the hood. I really want a hilide but will settle with T-5s
The tank is 12 gallons and i really want to keep the hood because i am getting a Helfrichi or a pair if i can find it in there. They are jumper so i need the hood. I want a new and improved light to sustain my micromussia collection. They will not die with bad light but there colors will fade, which i dont want. I also have some real colorful zoas that i would like to keep colorful.

Has anyone done this. Moded thier light without comprimizing the hood? Or does anyone have micros and zoa under PCs that have not lost color?

Thanks

Don't have the MH setup but after having the stock lighting for 8 months I bought a new hood from them, it was the 108W PC, very nice.

I did have a micro under the stock lighting and it looked like crap, good call on the light upgrade. Traded mine away.

If you feel like you can handle this mod yourself I'd do it.

yeah i really want to but i would really like to either see it in person or talk to someone how has done the mod. Thanks for your respose though. Also, do you guys think that the fans in the hood would be enough to cool a halide?

if you are going with a halide, dont keep it directly above the surface, you will want to suspend it somehow above the tank. they are supremely unwaterproof and if water splashes onto the bulb it can and will explode. if your using a hood i would suggest t5's.

it can be argued all day long between t5's and halides, but i think the t5's allow better bulb choices, excellent spectrum choices, and they give off very little heat and use much less power. imo if you are using a hood they are the way to go.

the hood comes with protective piece so water will not be able to hit any part of any bulb and as i am sure you know any bulb hit with water will share these negative affects not just halides

But you have to think about the heat too. . . how much heat will that bulb give off??

Don't get me wrong - I was thinking of doing the same thing - but I'm thinking I might get a DIY 70W HQI and try to retro a clip lamp to my 12gal cube.
