Need opinions....

I have a few options as it pertains to my tank when I move in November, and I'm trying to decide what to do...

1.) Sell everything out of the current tank, and use the hardware to start over again.

2.) Break all of the coral off the rocks that they're mounted to, put them and about 50 gallons of my current water into a frag system running in the basement of my parent's house, and keep them in there for a few weeks while I get the system back up and running at the new house.

3.) Just try to move it all at once and keep it all mounted to the rocks as it is now.

The primary thing I'm concerned with doing #2 is that the system isn't set up to deal with this kind of volume of livestock. There definitely isn't enough room to accomodate my live rock, and even if there was, I wouldn't see the point. I could put the skimmer on the system and increase the total water until I get the other tank settled enough to transfer all of the livestock back over...I just don't want to lose everything (making #1 or a failed attempt at #2 or #3 unappealing) and I really don't want to lose everything and have nothing to show for it (making #1 more tempting.)

If it was you, based on your experiences, stories you're aware of, etc. what would you do?

If your move is in the Pittsburgh area, I'd recommend #3, and invite a few of us to help. Move everything all at once, including the water. I work for pizza. ;oD

Granted I only had a 5 gallon at the time...I've moved it twice by emptying the corals and live rock into a bucket. I left enough water in the tank to keep the sand wet. Although a long pain staking process I was successful both times and I feel like the massive water changed benefited the corals. The hardest part would be recruiting help to make your life easier and I'm sure you have plenty of options in that aspect on here alone. Let us know and good luck

If you decide on a mass move I would like to volunteer. Hoping to meet everyone at october meeting.

I am a card holder for the local aquarium movers 145 so union labor laws require beer on weekends !!

Should I scrape all of the coraline off the tank (I allow it to encrust the back rather than messing with backgrounds) so it doesn't die off, or just try to keep it wet?

I vote move it all at once. My better half and have moved our 75G twice with no casualties. You will probably loose the coraline on the back. We kept everything submerged in tank water. Buy some cheap styrofoam coolers to transfer LR, corals, fish, water,ETC. I would also be willing to help provided I'M not working.

we ( boys and I ) can help do # 3 which would be my choice. Also people that are close can definitely temporarily house things until the new system is settled even if it is for 1 week. We work for pizza and frags - I am sure a few pieces will be broken off in the move. Have truck will travel.

I'm in for the move also......I can help as long as my work schedule allows.....I can bring my son if he's not working too, he's 23 and has a strong back....: )

Thank you all for the offers. I think what I'm going to do is let everything grow for another 3 weeks or so, then make small frags that I'll sell for pretty cheap, that way, if I lose anything, then I'll have the frags to sell. That should also give everything the chance to heal up before I move it. I'll keep you all posted.
