Need some Lighting and Return Pump advice

Hey all,

First the easy one.. My two Eheim 1262's are approaching 10 years old and should probably be replaced. I can tell their performance has started to dip over the years as I have needed to choke the return stand pipes a bit over time. My question is has anyone bought any of the DC (in sump) return pumps and like those better or just replace the two 1262's with the same?

I have a 48 inch 8 bulb T5 light fixture which I am sorry to say I am overdue replacing the bulbs. I have a FOWLR tanks and have been able to grow pretty nice coralline algae over the years. If I decide to scrap the T5 and get a LED light fixture any ideas what I need to look for? I have seen several of the LED strip lights but they are nowhere near as wide as the T5 fixture so would I need several of those strip lights to replace the T5 or is one bright enough?

Thanks in advance

The jebao return pumps are pretty nice for the price. Reefbreeders leds are also nice. I used them over my 75 and they did a great job. I recently picked ecotech Redmond gen1. I am going to send them in to upgrade. I got the gen 1's cheapnenough that I will get the two lights upgrade to gen 3 for less then one gen 3 would have cost me.

I have an Eheim 1262 and replaced it with a Waveline DC12000. Been running it for a year and don't regret it. It powers the DT and my manifold. I use the Eheim for water changes and other stuff.

For LEDs, there are a ton of great choices out there, but I don't have any experience with the stip lights and wonder how powerful they are and what you can grow under them. Is there a reason you would need strip lights instead of a fixture?

Thank you for the pump info

There is no real reason I am thinking of swapping out the light outside of the fact i need to replace the bulbs and figured if I was going to I might as well do it.

They are a couple of 60''' BML they would be perfect for your setup very pricey when they campout but at used still not cheap but worth it. I just bought two 18'' models used. Sorry Build My Led. They no longer build leds for this hobby. American made.

I have a Jebao DCS9000 having the ability to adjust the speed of the pump makes life so much easier... it much quieter than my old quiet one 5000 but I'm only running it at 6/10

You're debating on what pump to buy when both of your 10 year old ehiems still work?

Not much of a debate in my mind.

If you want total control of your led fixture, consider the Reef Breeders Photon V2 series. They are very slim and modern looking, they have legs and hanging kits, they do sunrise/sunset/moonlights and they have 6 channels of color control. For the price (if you want those features) you really can't do better.

I have been using Jebao DC12000 return pumps for several years now and no issues. And the newer generation units are even more versatile.
