Need to Move my 220!!!

Well I just heard that the offer I put in on a great house has been accepted so I need to start planning the move of my 220G tank that is currently running from my brothers house 3 miles away to my new house. I talked to TJ and he recomended I utilize Rubbermaid stock tanks for my rock, livestock and coral in the transition. Anybody with any thought, ideas, or suggestions?

I moved my tank several years ago about 90 miles. I left the sand bed in it and transfered the live rock and inhabitants into coolers with lids and did not loose 1 fish or coral. But I was right up against it. I should have aerated the container with fish.

Where about do you live in Canton?

I currently live right by the old Canton Center Mall and my new house is in Avondale just off of Fulton Dr.. The real issue I think is that the tank will not be able to be set right back up because I have a basement sump and it is about 85-100 Gallons.

just went through this ,,i went to the dollar store and got 25 gal tubs for my coral and fish ( cheap too ) they worked great and they were clear to get some light in. how much water to you plan on keeping from your old tank ?? i would swap alot of it out for new water ,,,,your sand bed COULD be a issue , some have moved without any problems and other have had train wrecks moving theirs ,,, i went with all new bed when i moved just to keep Murph's laws from kickin my butt .... and it looks better for a bit.

Phil , I have a 100 gal rubbermaid you can BORROW. I can also give you a hand if you need it buddy. Call me.

I used sand from an older tank but I rinsed the heck out of it. One problem with keeping the sand bed in the tank when you move is that when you put the rocks ontop of it its possible for something to burrow around and make your rocks unstable. I would remove the sand bed, rinse it clean and add it back to the system last. Maybe save a couple of cups if you want to seed the bed but I wouldnt bother with that.

Wow Phil! Grats on the house bud!

I should have my truck back and running again next week, if you need some extra truck room, I am more than happy to help ya if you need it.

Though I'm not in any physical condition to be able to lift things, I can still provide a truck and driver, I know it's not large enough for the tank, but it's transport room for other things.

I will try and see if I can borrow my dads E-350 and trailor.

Thanks everyone!! I have 45 days to close, and I will likely use all of it so I think the moving of the tank will likely be in July. While the tank is down I am also goig to scrape the blue paint off the back and change it to black. I still need to confirm where in the house the new tank will be going, but the house it pretty big so I should be able to find a place... ;)
