the question now is to keep it or not... thoughts?
D-Nak the purple, blue and green appear to be gigs, but the off green one looks like an hadoni. Is that right?
I'm bringing it back
does anyone know of a good source for one?
its impossible to find them I've looked everywhere.
I'd be hard pressed to believe that teal anemone in the basket is a gig due to the way it's holding itself just like a haddoni and it's foot appears to buried in the substrate.
Obviously there is no way to tell without closer inspection, but I thought the same thing. In addition, gigs come in teal, but not that shade. The gravel on the tentacles would also indicate the stickiness of a haddoni.
Right -- I was hoping to be able to positively ID them myself, but they were sold before I had the chance. It does physically look different from the rest in the basket. As of a couple days ago, the small blue one was still available. I may go and check it out on Monday just out of curiosity. I'm not in the market for a sick gig, but the photo was taken about three weeks ago. Something tells me that if it's still there, it's either looking a lot better than in the photo, or way worse (and to me, it looked pretty bad in the photo).
Good for you. I bet most people would have thought those gigs looked great. Learning the subtle differences in good and bad in a gig is very difficult. What's even more difficult is to not purchase a gig when is "almost" meets your requirements for a healthy gig but has some other outstanding quality.
According to the LFS, they were all gigs. I didn't have a chance to positively ID them, but this particular LFS has been bringing in gigs with some frequency, so I trust that their ID is correct.
Where are you located? I'm going on a gig hunt this weekend, I'll let you know what I find out. I don't think there are any reliable and consistent online sources for gigs. I thought I had a good connection, but I recently heard some negative feedback about the vendor.

Very sound advice. I have slaughtered my fair share thinking I can bring one around.
Unfortunately, I have not been able to confirm any sources of healthy gigs (yet). Most of the healthy ones I've seen people post in the forum have been coming out of other people's tanks.D-Nak can you pm me the vendors name please, i have been looking for a source myself.
Thanks
I mentioned it on another post -- but the key to this is RESTRAINT. Very short tentacles on a gig is not a good sign. Unfortunately, I've never seen one in a store that didn't have short tentacles. I'm in southern CA this weekend, and I was hoping to visit the store you mentioned to me (the one near you) a while back since I called them and they have a purple gig in stock, and are claiming they've had it for over three weeks. I wasn't planning to buy it, just wanted to see what it looked like.
