hello,

here is a pic of my funny looking "sebae" funny part is, it actually looks like a small healthy and sticky gigantea carpet anemone to me :D maybe i'm wrong....

it has tan foot with purple spots on the underside of the pedal. thought???

it's color is a little light, but it is inflated, sticky, and looks like it has some nice potential. time will tell....

you might be right right... the column is orange'ish in color. i saw the purple spots, and thought it was a gig...

here is a pic of the verruca....

do sebae have purple verruca??? i thought that was a trait of gigs.

thoughts?

jonathan, that is certainly a s.gigantae. none of the pictures you have posted, especially seeing it for myself in person, is indicative of h. malu.

thanks jordan! that brightens my day :) it sure looks like a small gig to me.

i'm not that experienced with gigs though. that is why i like to double check with some people that are...

the nem is about 5" in diameter. just a little tike. lol it was retracted from me poking at it in order to get a pic of the verruca.

i have 2 other very large crispa sebaes, and they both have white verruca. not sure about malu though.

i'm still leaning towards it being a gig :)

The color of the foot and verrucae, combined with the mouth color and siphonoglyphs lead me to think it's a gigantea. The patterning of the tentacle location, typically in rows of two or three tentacles, then a space in between, also indicates a gig. The only thing a bit off is the tentacle shape, but I tend to use this as only a minor indicator of species because tentacle shape and length varies tremendously, especially when viewing an acclimating anemone.

awesome! thanks everyone, especially jordan and derrick!

this little one is staying with me. it is staying inflated, it's mouth is closed, and looks halfway decent, imo. i'm stoked at being able to get it :)

i'll post some updates down the road...

p.s. i also forgot to add that the tentacles on this nem all vibrate when there is no water flow. this also seems to be a characteristic of gigs....

I am sure that your anemone is a S. gigantea 100%

awesome! thank you sir!

i am going to start checking every anemone at the lfs's from now on no matter what they are labeled as :) the shop where this one came from had a hoddoni labeled as a gig, and had this gig labeled as a sebae. lol

i'm grateful and hoping it pulls through....

LOL typical. A lot of us have found bargains on nems because they were mis-IDed. I guess it benefits to know your nems! I always have fun bargain hunting like that at a couple LFS in my area. Have fun looking around.

updated pic of the new gig.

it deflated a couple times, so i started medicating by dipping in cypro antibiotics. i am going to try dipping for an hour, returning it to the dt, and repeating daily until it stops deflating. when it inflates, it looks great, other then being a little bleached. i am going to try this instead of having a hospital tank for it. just a personal preference...

if you notice, it seems to have had some prior damage on the right side. there looks to have been a small chuck of the pedal removed. the tentacles have started to grow back, and doesn't seem any worse for wear....

Generally speaking when you start a course of antibiotics you're supposed to finish them even if symptoms are no longer showing. If you don't finish your course it could come back and be immune to the antibiotics. Whether or not this is true for anemones, I don't know, but you should really reconsider and get it in a HT.

He can do the dip method, others have had success? with it. But you should finish a 7 day course of ciprofloxacin. The main worry I have is if your newest is showing signs of being sick, you may end up making your healthy gig sick by not having the sick gig quarantined in a tx tank.
