Nems and shipping

Quick question, I ordered two nems online, a LTA and a bubble tip. They were both shipped in the same box overnight, so at maximum they've been in their bags for about 24 hours. The LTA looks ok, but the Bubble tip's mouth is gaping almost completely round. I know the gaping mouth is a bad sign usually, but has anyone else seen this from shipping?

Shipping is often rough on nems, but if I had to choose which of the two I would prefer to be roughing it, I would choose just what you got.
LTA's are more sensitive, BTA's can handle quite a wallop, and I would even expect a possible split as a result which is pretty common.

Hopefully the BTA pulls through, he was a really pretty rainbow red/green/blue-purple. They are both going into Quarantine, LTA first in a tupperware container of sand, then the BTA.

I also have some Cipro on order as a just in case deal, but shipment was delayed and won't be here til monday.

Here is the WYSIWYG picture from when I bought it.

Now, granted I know this is obviously not a true, white light representation of how it will look in my tank.

BTA's are tough, we see many go through PH's and get all mashed up and still survive.
I have seen some pretty colorful ones, I can't say that pic was hopped on too much if it was, as long as you can see white being white there wasn't too much play.

Yeah I'm seeing white where there is white in the picture. Now that it has been through a drip acclimation and is in the QT tank under some lights it is opening up and the mouth is starting to close up. The LTA's mouth looks closed for all I can tell, the outer ring is open, but the inner mouth is closed. The LTA almost immediately opened up when I got it into the QT tank.

Here is the LTA's picture:

Ooh, well that there has been through the color wheel in some way, I would not expect THAT to stay the same.
Does it look anything like that in person?
Looking at that pic, I'd automatically assume the purple area to be white/ bleached and that photo oversaturated or stepped on some way.

Doesn't look too much like the picture, more of an olive green at the moment. But It is only under 18w 10k and super actinic T5s in the QT.

When I tore down my tanks many years later. It split into 4.

I would expect it to become beige w/ a green color mixed or highlighted.
That is one of the many nems I see that are sold as a multi colored easter looking thing, not sure how these come about, but pretty much always after they recover and take on their natural color it is a beige or tan base w/ one color highlighting, green, purple, or sometimes red.
I'm sure it will still look really nice, I just would not expect it to look like that pic when it is healthy.

The LTA's foot was a nice bright red, then fades to white, then back to the olive on the tentacles. I'll try to get a good picture of it today and post it.

The BTA was about the size and shape of an oreo, with the mouth gaping almost a complete circle. Last night before I left it had moved into one of the PVC Ts I had in the QT tank, and inflated to just bigger than a golf ball. The mouth looked to be closing up from what I could see of it.

Here is the crappy cell phone picture I took yesterday for the seller.

So here is how they are looking today. The LTA decided it was a ballerina and is spinning in the flow. It'll set it's foot down occasionally, then let go and spin some more. The RBTA is currently chilling in a pvc T joint. Not sure why he is hiding in there.

They both look ok for fresh shipped and in QT.
Obviously your LTA looks nothing like the pic selling it, and not that it looks bad but I have a personal peeve of vendors posting these super bright colored LTA's when it's not what you are really getting.

Yeah, it was a little bigger than the "5 inch expanded" on the side. Hell fully extended it is about 8-9" across.

The coloring looks a little better than in the picture. Looking forwards for when it gets into my DT under my Photon48 light.

Well, due to an accident (busted the tubes on my light while cleaning salt creep off the shield.) I moved both of them into my display tank. Under the Photon 48 lights they both look closer to the pictures from when I bought them. I'll try to get pictures up here soon.

Here is how they look today. The LTA seems really happy, when I first stuck him in that spot he stayed closed up, now he is spread wide open, despite the low flow in that corner. the BTA has moved a whole whopping 2 inches, and seems content where he is now. For the pictures I dropped the blue channel on my LEDS to 0 and whites to 100 just long enough to take the pictures.
