Nems are back to cipro treatment

My nems are back to quarantine after discussing the best options with taylor t, he recommended to treat them and never regretted the move, thanks Dave. The nems look good, keep you posted. Cipro magic and fresh salt water daily,50 percent change with airstones to provide oxygen and blasting them with powerheads, so far they love the set up.

The other nem when it heals will be gigantic, you can tell by the folliage.

deflate/floppy = march of death. The one that looks like it was cut in half, suprisingly, is doing ok. The 2 in your post above look amazingly better!!!

That happened to mine, treated for four days and has been great since. Good luck

Did you feed while you treated? I'd be afraid of fouling the water, but I am changing 100% every day before treatment, treatment in late evening after photo period.

They look better Dave, let us hope for the best, at least it looks like we have three so far.

I fed in the last day to make sure that it wouldn't deflate again. I only drained the water down to the height of the gig in the nano then filled back up with tank water. Roughly 7 gallons on a 14 biocube. Just used a maxi 1200 for the return and hung a halide above turned on 8 hours a day

Good job guys! Hoping I don't have to do this with my purple, but in case I do there's plenty of non-rookies to ask help from :-)

Peter: Before you did the QT, did either of yours start gaining their Zoox back and get darker tips? Just curious.. I'm seeing Zoox everywhere in the tentacles already.

Its great to have RC to share experiences and thoughts on this hobby, quite challenging, told David that it is like biology class, the fun of it is nursing everything back to life. The nem took the feeding without a glitch taylor t, similar to the haddonis, one is responsive, the other one is slow.

looking good David on the nems, glad I was able to see them, they are in great hands. You are the nem master David with all the nems you have and to know their behaviors and mannerism. Great Mertensii, never seen such a great specimen like that, awesome color.

Thanks Pete... I'm still learning, and still screw up... Like every other person here...

Anyway, here is tonight. 48 hours. No deflate since last night's pancake episode. Woke up to both looking full and nice. Full all day, the one on the left ate a tiny piece of shrimp. Nice tight mouth, most of the time. Tight pressurized folds, most of the day, got really tight the longer the photo period. One on right didn't take any food, but wanted to respond. I'm guessing it's because the one on the right has been cut, and the mouth is still trying to heal up along with the column. Still looks a little like a fresh cut... Looks like they cut both the "teeth" in half. In the picture, it's the nem with the darker patch on the right, the cut mouth is almost visable to the right of the dark patch. Where the mouth is, is the end of the disk, where it was cut, and the column starts. If any of this makes sense... It tries to close it's mouth, but it can't. It closes, but the cut doesn't have anything to clamp closed, and the "teeth" just kind of hang out, with the other half of the mouth nice and tight. Hard to describe. This one has been in Pete's care for over a month now, but looked pretty poor a few days ago. Looks like a really nice gig now, if it fully recovers. Honestly, if it recovers, I'll be quite shocked, but it's made a 180 turn around with cipro.

I thought about the food... I only fed because I'm doing 100% water changes every day.

Lights were on for 8 hours today. They are off now. Both still nice and fluffy. Both have a very long road ahead...

XPE LED lights with dimmers. Only using 3 of 5 drivers (36 led's) 12 blue x 10%, 12 blue x 30% and 12 white x 40%. Water change and cipro to happen in 2 hours.

Pete buddy, we need some details, details, on what's going on with that behemeth of yours! Pictures! Pictures!

Good luck... knock on wood, but I think we're yet to see a fatality using Cipro... correct me if I'm wrong!

There have been Gigs that have not pulled through, but if it is because they weren't treated fast enough, or just already too sick to begin with is another story... It is by no means a sure fire treatment as Minh will say but it certainly gives them a MUCH better chance at survival. I'm seeing Gig threads pop up all over the place, and it's awesome..

one of the nems, after brunch and water change this am.

The purple is really healthy now with zoo tissue coming back and coloring up nicely.

mouth close after brunch and hope all is well, still early to tell for now.

Pete, that purple you have looks like a real keeper! Looks way better in person! Strongest looking one of the bunch.

Here is a picture of the two originals. The cut one is on the right. This is 5 minutes ago. The one on the right is half on the rock, half on the bottom of the tank, so cleaning the tank spic and span isn't really happening with out disturbing it really bad.

Here is a couple pics of the cut one on the right. Notice the sky blue line on the left side of the column. It has healed completely on the column and the edge of the disk, yet the mouth doesn't look like it has healed completely. Mouth is right next to the edge of the disk. No inside curlies hanging out though. It did eat a tiny piece of shrimp, like half pencil eraser size, and looked like it responded good, not slow. Time will tell.

As good as I tell myself they are doing, they are really in **** poor shape compared to what they should be.
