Neon yellow plating montipora?

Close but no cigar :)

whatever this is, I wouldn't mind getting a piece of it....;)

Lfs is tropiquarium... I'm 99% sure it's a monti. I have never seen them either, that's why I bought it. It's extremely bright, it glows. My first thought was that it was dyed. I see no other pigment and it look like it plates.

Who at Tropiquarium told you thats what it was? Do you know there names in there? The 1 guy Brent is really good, he actually has a degree in Marine biology, and knows his stuff well. If he told you thats what it was I would believe him. Is the other 1 still there?

epleeds: That second one looks like a peltiformis. Most of the ones you see have a tanish-yellow base. The first one looks a little more green.
wdt: that's a porites. You can tell because the polyps are sunken in.
Chessmanmark: that's just a sunset look alike. And I dont think i would call the second one yellow...
I do agree that the OP's looks like a green, but a picture under daylights would help.

All of the yellow plating montis that i've seen are either "peltiformis" or a lightened/browned out green that someone calls yellow. You have no idea how much I would like to have that statement shoved in my face though. :P

Sunset look alike. Geez, how rude! That's a Tyree my friend. LOL Here's a top down.

As for the pink polyp monti, the camera just doesn't capture it's true color, but it is in the yellow spectrum in person.

two yellow Montipora in this pic

one is Montipora palawanensis the other is not yet identified.

Both glow very nicely under my VHO actinics.

that's a Butterflyfish ;)

Blue lights tend to make yellow corals glow greenish. Maybe I'll take some better pix for you doubters tomorrow, but than again... maybe I won't :)

Nice avatars!

if gary says they are yellow, then they are yellow in my book

thanks for the vote of confidence!

why would I lie about it? The one Monti is yellow with pinkish overtones.
Since everyone perceives colors differently some might call it brown but perhaps... just perhaps... I'll take some closer pix tomorrow.

Ok, Here's the monti under 10K lights and that it. The pic is way darker than real life. This think glows like crazy under actinic only.

I just went back to the store and there is still 2 more frags for 20 bucks each. I spoke to the dude brent and he said they are montipora capicornis, which is exactly what it looks like. I'll take a pic later under just actinic, it pops like crazy.

I have a yellow cap (i however wouldn't refer to it as neon), have had it for years. I will try to take some pics of it tonight.

I finally got a pic, but its not a good one, didn't feel like pulling out the DSLR, the color is a bit off, the cap is yellow (not as yellow as it should be due to some alk issues while i was traveling).
