NERAC 2013 Cancelled.

+ 1 on appreciating how generous Joe and the Aquarium have been on pricing for the club, many thanks. Though I was looking forward to the conference, its good to see they are busy, the aquarium really is an asset to the Island.

Somthin to look into... the local (Riverhead)Moose Lodge of riverhead has a large bingo hall in the basement. It has sealed concrete floors. It does have a ground floor entrance, so vendors wont have to carry tanks downstairs. I have no idea of what the pricing would be for 2 days. Possibly somthing to look into. Its no more than 3 miles away from the aquarium. Also maybe we can do away with the catering to cut costs, or just go with pizza. This is the one reefing event that prevents us long islanders from having to go into the city. It would be ashane to lose it this year.

Agreed it would be a shame to give up on this event so easily just because the one place we have always had it is unavailable

One thing to think about is the cost. The cost of this event is so reasonable because of where it is held and the deal that we get. Also, one of the great aspects of it is dinner in front of the reef. I don't know about you, but I don't really want to have dinner at the Moose Lodge.

Not everyone goes to the dinner. Besides I think most people can handle not eating in front of the reef tank for once.

Judging by how the officers say its pulling teeth to get member to buy tickets to nerac at the aquarium, I would expect a poor turnout any where else. Not to mention its a tough sell to get vendors to pay for space.

now we broke the tradition.. throws off the whole 25th annual thing or whatever since were starting back at zero:thumbdown

For those that do attend the dinner the tank is a big part of the draw. You get to see sunset and the different fish begin their courtships and then see them spawn at the end of the evening. I'm pretty sure the Moose don't do that at the lodge, nor would a bunch of fish nerds be interested in seeing it.
