I forgot to ask a question...Who drilled your sump?

Thanks

Actually I did- (Another thing I'm sure I should have taken pictures of in hind-sight)

1) I used my Drimel and the glass bit from the store.
Funny thing about the glass bit for the Drimel is that it didn't fit. (I wrapped the bit w/ a little tape to get it to fit snug.

2) I then found a plastic cup that had the same diameter I wanted for the hole and outlined it with a Sharpee.

3) I made a dam around the outline w/tape and filled it with water.

4) Once it started to get a little deeper I took down the dam and just kept the little ditch it was making full of water.

I admit, I had a little luck with the whole thing coming out exactly at the pump inlet height (I didn't have the pump, only the 2inch bulkhead).

looks good....excited to see what you get for a final aquascape. Seems like you have lots of nice rock to choose from :-D

Thanks!

I actually was pleasently suprised with the rock- there are a lot of good, big pieces (~10lbs+)
Especially good when you factor in that it was for under $3/lb shipped!! Gotta love Ebay! (same looking rock was about $9 locally)

Did you have any trouble with using acrylic baffles/ dividers in your sump with the sump itself being glass. I thought I read something along time ago about being careful due to the possible expansion against the glass (or something).

Btw...I use an AM3000 on my 360 & love it. I run it WIDE OPEN at 1.5 inch pipe all the way.

I also was a little worried about using the acrylic, but glass is so fragile unless you use a thick piece...
That's 1/4 inch acrylic and the pieces that touch are bonded w/acrylic cement- the areas that touch the glass have a little breathing room on one side and the gap is filled with silicone.

I found a silicone that was specifically for sealing lexane and acrylic to glass or itself- It's early- but so far it's working great!
My last sump used 1/8th inch acrylic and lexane.... I would NEVER do that again... it's WAY to flimsy.

I love the AM3000 so far- quiet and I have it turned WAY back right now until I get extensions and Y's for the out nozzles (the stock ones are too short- it ends up pointing right at the glass and causing a massive sand storm).

Great stuff Ren. I like following the progress. BTW who did you get your liverock from on ebay. I did too notice that all the lfs had theirs about $9 a pound:confused:

Awesome looking tank, you definitely have it planned pretty good. I have a couple of questions for you.

1. Did you have your overflow custom made on your main tank?

2. Where did you get your rack at?

The overflow is the new style of overflow for the 125Gal on the All Glass Aquarium Reef-Ready Tanks-
I got the AGA Dorso Standpipe kit as well since it's hard to fit a home-made one in that overflow (but overall it's all stock).
I thought about widening the in/out holes but figured it'd be too difficult...

The Reef-Rack is from www.reefermadness.us under Reef Products.

My skimmer started slowing down gunk production so I decided to give it a good cleaning--
I won't bore you of more pics since it looks just the same as before the last pics...

I've never seen this color gunk in my other tank/skimmer...
Maybe it's from the Southdown sand??

As you can see... the skimmate doesn't look to dark but it has more of that dark clay-gunk on the bottom...

I seriously doubt it's copper from the items that are in the tank now.... And I really hope it's not!!

Anyone else seen this happen?

I have.

Mine happens when I put something like Reef Complete or Reef Essentials or something like that in with water changes and my normal 1 per two week dosages. Course the stuff I put in is actually blue in color so that explains that.

BTW, I forgot to tell you that your kid dumped a little concrete mix into your tank, thats why you have the deep grey concrete color skimmate. :D

Seriously though, I think that was just the Southdown funk.

Hey FishhyRen,
How many reef racks did you need for your 125? I'm getting ready to move my 75 into a 125 and like the idea of using those. I'm going to do one ledge on each side of the tank with an island in the middle. Is there enough in one kit to support that?

I bought one kit and the ledge kit (5 extra ledges) the kit comes with (if I remember correctly) 2 6inch post and 4 15inch posts-

I ended up cutting the 15inch posts with a saw to make them 6 inch and 7 inch posts- this allowed me to spread it out a little more...
I asked about getting two kits, they said they thought it might be too much...

I can see under the rocks in the middle and watch the water flowing in there which is a good sign! So far I'm very pleased with the kit. (although you could probably make something similiar out of PCV pipe...)
