Can you tell me what those green "sprouts" growing on your rocks are ? I got the same on 2 of my rock. I didn't notice them until this weekend because they are growing on the back of the rocks in an area that is well lit but also hiden when viewing from the front.

thanks alot!

Simon

baotchi-
I'm not 100% sure b/c they are not listed on any hitchhiker ID page that I've seen but I'm speculating that they are just some type of tube sponge...

It's actually a calcareous algae...the name escapes me atm. I'll post if I find/recall it.

Yeah, they are expensive. You don't see them very often for $69 locally.

If you are ever interested in trading or selling a frag of that valida then let me know.

Well I got a purple tang today.... LOCALLY!
I found one for a deal I just couldn't pass up!
BioReef had one for LESS than $60!!! I ended up getting the purple tang, a Kole tang, and a jug of magnesium supplement for $90!
Like I said... I just couldn't pass that up!

looking great- can't wait to see more progress pictures. Can you take more closeups, or more complete pics of your sump? I like the way it's set up- thinking of re-doing mine.
Good luck w/it all!

Sorry for the delay, here are some pics from today...

Here's the O3 (injected into the skimmer)...

Okay...
I couldn't resist...
Here are some pics of my purchase from this weekend :D

Cuttlefish Egg:

Here's a picture of the newborn (today :) )

And here's a full tank shot (w/a lot of micro bubbles from messing with the skimmer).

That's all for now :) I'll be sure to follow up about the new cuttle :)
He will most likely go in my other tank when he gets bigger...

Still working on getting the cuttlefish to eat- I'm pulling small rubble from my refugium that is covered in pods along w/some cheata... I haven't seen him eat yet-
I'm going to try some more mysis and pods from the sump and some brine shrimp tonight.

From what I've read, it's quite normal for them not to eat for a few days after hatching.

New items and a new picture

New items and a new picture

Well, a few updates since my last post...
I was unable to get the cuttlefish eating unfortunately (didn't eat pods, mysis or anything else for that matter) and he didn't make it. I may try again soon but will do more research first...

I bought a diamond goby to help keep the sand clean (so far he's clouding up the tank more than anything) and a neon goby.
The tanks are doing well but too skittish to get any good pictures!

I received my VHO bulbs and finally put them all in (almost went to the ER in the process b/c I stabbed my finger badly while stripping the wire from the harness).

Here's a couple pics:

canopysanslights.jpg

This one is just to show wiring a bit....

canopylightdetail.jpg

And this one I've added the lights w/photoshop and given you the specs...
Hope to have more pics of the progress soon.
I now have the VHO actinics on 8hrs a day and the MH's on 5hours.

 I should have picked a better title (I wish I could change it now)...
Seems this one doesn't catch too much attention...

I have a pinpoint pH controller and am looking into getting a calcium reactor soon...
I'm thinking about the MRC CR-2...
Unless someone suggests otherwise... haven't heard anything but praise about it...

So the Kole tang and the Purple tang seem to get along great! They hang out together all day doing exploring as a team...

From people who have Purple or Kole tangs- how long does it take for them to start being less skittish?

Also, next big question... What types of tangs get along together... for instance, I've heard you shoud not put a yellow, black or another purple tang in with a purple tang.
Is that true?

Are there any tangs that don't get along with either the Kole or Purple?

Thanks!
