This week my new 180 will be going up. Here the plan. The tank is a 180 Acrylic RR with trapezoid overflow. There are two 2" drains in overflow. Will probably be cutting teeth in overflow to allow for more flow.
Pump is new Sequence Barracuda which will be plumbed thru Oceans Motions 4Way. Sump will be 68 Gallon yard storage container purchased at Wal-Mart. Protein Skimmer is a Euro-Reef which I got from a Friend(don't know model). Will eventually add DIY Calcium Reactor and Kalkwasser Reactor.
Lighting is 2X 400 Watt 10K electronic MH, 2X 175 Watt 10K MH, and standard actinics for now.

Instal scheduled for 4/23/2005 will update as I go! Pics to follow!

This weekend is almost here. It's gonna be a long couple of all nighters putting this thing together and filling her up!

Well, since I can't get anything this big yet, I might as well tag
along, hope you don't mind the drool... :inlove:

Thanks for sharing.

Cediss... where did you end up getting that tank from and who built it? I'm really curious about the details like what thickness and such. Have fun plumbing, I'm sure it's gonna be a killer setup when your done.

knpjdad- tag along, thats fine! Thanks for drool.
lakersfan- it's 1/2" acrylic, bought tank at lfs. He said it's built by a company called HI-Tech. I never heard of it. Looks well built. Perfect joints.
ZooCrazy- should have filled up by end of day tomorrow. I'll post pics
RedSea- Best security a man can own. Thanks

This is a picture of my canopy flipped upside down showing slide mechanism that allow more access into tank. With slides the MH lights can be slid back to provide better acces into tank without removing canopy.

Nice Boxer...when I move into a house, that will be the first thing I add to it.....I miss mine....His name was Simba...

What pump are you using with the OM 4way?

simbaboxer- Boxer are one of the best breeds! Pump is Reeflo Barracuda on open loop. Unsure of total head pressure, but am estimating 10 foot, which means my flow should be in the 2000-2500gph range. Unfortunately, CL just wouldn't be a good choice for me. Among other reasons I'm plumbing everything outside to keep sound down and a CL would not work as well for this particular application IMHO, due to lenght of plumbing prior to pump! Gotta go now, it's 5:40 AM and I'm starting to drain my 125, and removing all coral and fish. Wooh whoo!!!

Cediss,

I agree, I loved my Boxer...I hated to give him up....right now I have a Pug...it is interesting they have some of the same tendancies actually....they play with their paws like the Boxer...and she follows me around the house like simba did...

Anyways, good luck with the set up...let me know how it turns out....

180 reef day 1

180 reef day 1

Thanks simbaboxer- here's the newest update. Haven't slept more than 2 hours this weekend. Tank filled! Leaks in plumbing fixed. Much more work to do! Start with getting rid of micro bubbles! Turns out I decided I could not get full benefit from OM 4 way due to placement and significant decline in flow. I'm pushing atleast 2500 GPH through tank, but if I had plumbed OM device I am sure I would have been under 2000 GPH due to plumbing head pressure. I'll explain more in future posts. Gotta go for now, more pics to follow.
