New 180 Reef Aquarium Set-up

4 years later. Not much to brag about!

4 years later. Not much to brag about!

I wish I could post an update that would be worthy of TOTM, but Im afraid there's been more downs than ups with this setup mostly due to lack of attention, bad luck, and not spending the money for proper equipement.

I hope and plan to turn that corner this year. I feel a renewed commitment to make this tank a sucessful hard coral dominant tank.

At this time the significant equipement changes are: downgraded lighting by removing one 400 watt MH ( too much heat and too high energy bill). Now I am running two 175 Watt 10k CoralVues and 400 watt 14k CoralVue. Same Hammerhead Reeflo main pump. Same skimmer. Currently only fan cooled, no chiller. No calcium reactor, DIY design worked but pump burned out And CO2 selenoid froze and have not replaced either ( limited number of corals has not demanded it). Will add reactor when Ca demand requires it.
Just upgraded from old aquacontroller to an Apex, which is awesome. Also decided to try dosing vodka because I have hungry fish and nitrates around 80 ppm. So provided my water parameters fall within SPS requirements, I will start repopulating the tank this Spring. Photos to come!

Not operational yet, except for security!
