I am usually just a lurker so I hope this works.

After 6 months of planning and work the upgrade from my 125 to 190 is complete.
Tank3.jpg

The tank is all glass and has a center overflow with 1.5in drain. The tank measures 64L X 28W X 24H.

All the rock, fish and coral came from my 125 which had been set up for over 11 years (I think the rock is curred).

All of the equipment is located in a closet in the garage.

The system was designed to make water changes a breeze. There is a 35 gal total drain tank above the equipment for topoff and water changes. The first 20 gal water change took about 10 min to complete and I did not lift one 5 gal jug. The sump volume is 55 gal.

Current equipment all Deltec; AP 851, PF 601, KM 500 and FR 509 (not is use yet) Pumps are two Reflo Darts. One is run on a closed loop the other for a return and to supply the CA reactor and FR 509 when it becomes operational. I figure the tank has about 4000 gal/hr of circulation. For cooling there is my trusty aquanetics chiller (c.1996).

Current lighting is suppplied with two 250W reefstar fixtures with 20K hamilton bulbs.

oh neat, I think I just bought the same chiller that you have. Old Aqualogic from 2001...

beautiful setup, still looks so sterile and clean =)

great work!

I have the same chiller (about the same age too) and I WISH mine looked that good! How are you getting the chiller to run without the controller plugged in? I thought I did that once by accident and the chiller wouldn't turn on. It was a LONG time ago so maybe I have it backwards.

Toolguy

The original controller went out so I purchased an Aqualogic Dual stage controller. Aqualogic tech. support told me how to rewire the power cord to bypass the controller outlet on the chiller. Works like a charm.

can i ask u wat chiller that is that u are useing. cause i have one just like it and it hasnt been turned on for about 10 years. and that is not a joke.

The Chiller is an Aquanetics ADIC-3A (1/4hp). Worked great on the 125 and will see how it does with 190gal.

The oregon reef was my model for this tank on a much smaller scale and more simple. Main focus in the design was to ease maitenance and have the least amount of pumps possible. I felt 190 was about as big as I could go in the tank/stand setup without calling a contractor to build in the tank like the oregon reef. Also the closet is not that large (53in long) so my sump volume was also limited.

I have a question abut your Chiller location. I have mine in a large closet and the area will heat up to over 100 degrees. Now I have to find a different location.

Theroon:

I live in SoCal so the temp in the garage during the summer will get to over 100F without the chiller. When we moved the equipment into the garage with my 125 I was concered about the heat. After 3 summers, the tank never went above 78F however, the chiller ran almost all day. To control the temp in the closet we removed the doors. Also we installed an attic fan in the garage for air circulation. With this tank I am planning to keep the temp around 80 in the summer and run the lights during the evening and at night. I am also curious to see if 1/4hp is enough as I had to double the heating wattage from my 125 to maintain the temp at night.

Deltec Reactor

Deltec Reactor

How do you like your Deltec Calcium reactor? Is rinsing and using the rowa media a hassle.

RV7A:

The Deltec Reactor is easy to use and the Rowa C+ was not that hard to wash. I simply put a couple cups of the Rowa in a mesh filter bag and washed in under the tap. When the reactor was put online there was only a minor amount dust that came out of the reactor. All Deltec Equip. gets A+.

Very nice! I do have to say that you have the cleanest equipment room that I have every seen! I can't even keep my 10x21 foot fishroom that clean! Impressive!

As an engineer with a Type-A personality I'd have to say that is one sweet set up. I wish mine even began to look anything like that...thanks for sharing!

I was playing with the wide angle so here are a few more pics.

Right now all softies except for this guy I have had for over 3 years. Plan to slowly convert the tank to SPS once things stabilize. The tank has been stocked for about 3 weeks.

Topup.jpg

The top is raised.

There are the 2 250W 20Ks. When I take pictures, Photoshop auto corrects to about 7500K for whitebalance???. In the future might add another 250W in the center or a 400W. For now the 250 20K's do just fine.

The distibution manifold off the main pump (Sequence Dart)

I wanted everthing possible to run off the main pump. The first valve is for the CA reactor. Number 2 for the FR509 and Number 3 is the water change fitting. When I perform a water change I attach a tube to that fitting a open the valve to pump 20 gals out of the sump.

Finally a Deltec protected tank is not complete without a NOG shot. This skimmer works great and this is 2 days of work.

Nog is pale compared to other tanks but, this tank is really understocked at the moment and that will change in the near future.

Enjoy
