New 38 gal startup

Ok I have decided to get back into the hobby after moving so i went to berts and bought a 38 gal aga. They are having an awesome deal on tanks right now would have went with the 75 except the glass bottom was tempered. I am going to drill it for an overflow but I havent quite figured out if im gonna do the bottom or the back yet, has anyone ever built a glass overflow for a tank?

Any help would be appreciated

thats probably what direction i was headed, i already have the drill bit to drill a 1" bulkhead, i still need to order one for 3/4" for the return though
 
ok last night i took a trip to lowes to get the halogen lights for the diy 70 pendants and all they had were 150w halogen lights, everyone one else was using at least 300w fixtures hope the 70 watt bulbs fit
 
my next big purchase will probably be a skimmer and i cant decide between the asm baby g and the octopus nw 110 has anyone used either one of these before or have any suggestions
 
If the asm baby g is a renamed asm mini, looks like might be from a quick search, I wouldn't recommend it. I've read a lot of complaints about it's performance. It's the only asm skimmer model I wouldn't recommend based on the reviews I've seen.
 
yeah thats the same one, i just found this one its the aqua euro classic 135

im trying to stay around 150 for a skimmer since the tank isnt going to be huge or anything

ok reefnut has the recirculating aqua euro classic 135 on sale right now for 159.95 i think i might jump on that
 
Why don't you just drill the drain and the return with for a one in bulk head. You could always reduce the fittings on the one inch down to what you want. This way you would not have to buy an additional drill bit.
 
well i guess i could do that, for some reason that never crossed my mind that is a great idea seeing that i have 2 extra bulkheads

still cant make up my mind on the skimmer, its between the aqua euro 135 re circulating model the asm mini g and the octopus nw 110 all are pretty comparable in price

any ideas?
 
I have a recirculation one on Project Reef Tank, One of Jason's Mod's. Those things are awesome in my opinion.

From the little I've seen the auqa euro looks nice. I'd go with it or the octopus.
Have you read any positive threads about the asm mini?
 
yeah there are some pretty goods one on nano-reef, and it is the cheapest but the re-circ for that price seems like the one to go with from what i have seen

Cool the main place I've read about them is the asm skimmer club thread and a lot of people were disappointed in their performance. You could get the mini and mod it to re-circulate all it takes is a couple of uniseals and a power head if you don't want to feed from the return.
 
i was talking about the aqua euro for the re-circ its on sale for 159 at reefnut right now, i emailed the guy at asmskimmer.com and he said that they were having alot of problems with the mini cracking with the extra pressure from the re circ mod

Did he try to sell you an octopus instead :lol: asmskimmer.com hasn't sold asm skimmers in at least 6 months.
Like I said before I think the aqua euro looks like a decent skimmer. I'd certainly pick it over an asm mini.
 
no i had read in another thread that someone was having issues with the minis breaking and they said that they had quite a few break
