New 400 Gallon Leemar - Over flow leaking - Help Please

Just got my 400 gallon Leemar with Starfire delivered to me today. As I was filling it up so I could leak check it, the bottom of one of the over flow boxes was leaking. It's a slow leak. I'm just not sure what to do. It's under warranty and Leemar will fix it for free just as long as I bring it back to them. FROM SALT LAKE TO LA. :angryfire::angryfire::angryfire:

So what would YOU do? Assuming my bulk heads are nice and tight and sealed okay. I know I should probably cut the over flow box off and then reseal it, but I really really don't want too. I'm wondering if I put a good bead over the silicone on the outside and inside if I will be okay. UGH. So frustrating. Here is a pic of my kids inside this 8 foot long bad boy.

Personally if its leaking into the overflow area. Theres nothing to worry about. My overflow leaked before and I didn't do anything regarding it. I run a tall durso pipe so there's nothing to worry about as the pipe is taller than where the leak was. Just my $.02

I agree not the end of the world as long as you install a standpipe.

Personally if its leaking into the overflow area. Theres nothing to worry about. My overflow leaked before and I didn't do anything regarding it. I run a tall durso pipe so there's nothing to worry about as the pipe is taller than where the leak was. Just my $.02

I'm going to just tape off all the seams, run a new bead of silicone over it and call her good. I talked to a handful of people and I have 2 - 1 inch returns in each over flow and 2 - 1.5 inch drains in each overflow. I'm going to do a tall Durso and 1 emergency drain that is about 1 inch taller and then go for it.

I would run it as is with a standpipe, and add a bead if it makes you feel better. A note of caution, I had my kids get in the in the tank for a picture and they broke one of the Euro braces where a hole was cut for a Sea swirl putting too much weight on it. I was frustrated that Leemar would not make a house call on my dime, but learned how easy it is to build a tank from a local tank builder who helped me make the repair.

Yes, when I un-crated the tank I could tell by leaning on the euro-brace that it would break. I was very careful with my kids. I always wanted to take a few pics with them in it. But no more. I was nervous with them in it last night taking a few pics. ha ha

I think it's a smart idea to run an extra bead of silicon; while the leak appears to be slow and you will be running a standpipe, if your power hours out for a prolonged period, your tank may empty to the too of the standpipe instead of to the bottom of the overflow teeth. With a tank your size, that could be a lot if extra water for the sump to handle.

How is the build quality otherwise?
Also, shouldn't it be the responsibility of the LFS you bought it from to return it?

On a side note, I wouldn't worry about it too much as long as you use some sort of standpipe/durso.

In the event that a power failure AND a durso leak... YES you would flood your sump.

It is a GOOD idea to seal that leak.

Those two fish in it may need to be QT first though.

I am not a silicone expert, but my understanding is that new silicone does not adhere well to cured silicone, so you may be wasting your time trying to reseal. If you are running durso pipes, then glue them into the bulkhead and it will be fine. If you are using some kind of siphon system, then depending upon how much the bottom of the overflow leaks, it could be a problem in the event of a long outage of some kind. I would consult with your LFS.

I had a 120 like that.

I re-did the silicone form inside the box, and also GLUE the PVC for durso ... dont want to empty half the tank into sump when power is off.


but at the end of the day, if you can, just take the overflow box off, get a couple of pieces of glass, and re-silicone the box back in, with the pieces of glass on the inside edge, to help hold it against the pressure. bad things happen when we are on vacation ... this will just make you sleep easier at night .

Take it up with the LFS you bought it from....I'm sure they will resolve your problem. It is a sweet tank none the less. Leemar tanks are awesome.

fix it now while the tank is empty... if not then you really should run a standpipe

if you do herbie overflow the leak will be a problem in long run, if durso overflow you should be fine.
