New 9010 skimmer and questions

Just received my 9010 and put it in a test tank before building my sump.

With an in-sump installation, is water suposed to flow out of the hole in the back as well as the outlet pipe? Seems like that's going to make some noise/ bubbles. I didnt see any instructions that said to block the hole off.

Also, since I'm building the sump....what's the best water depth to run it in?

The hole is normal, if you set it up so the water just hits the glass and runs down it shouldn't cause any problems. The ideal water depth is 6-10" in my opinion but this is more from the standpoint of reducing microbubbles and having a safety margin before the pump runs dry, anything between 4-10" is fine.
