I finaly picked up this acon thats been sitting at the lfs for a while (geuss i root for the underdog) lol Can someone identify the type? Also it has almost completly grown over the bottom of the plug. This is my first acon and how should i deal with the growth on the bottom of thr plug? They were asking 39.00 for the frags in this location, and since it looked stressed i asked 25 and got it for 29.00. Good deal or not and how should i deal with the growth on the bottom of the plug?

Looks like a war coral to me and growth is encrusting. It will put out very long sweeper tentacles and is considered to be aggressive so keep it away from other, more sensitive corals.

war coral the red blue kind .very nice encrusting going on.keep it low flow med light.has crazy sweepers at night keep other coral at 5 inches down stream 2 up stream.the lfs guy sold you this as a acan.wnat a dumb$#@$#@.how much did you pay?i personally love favites they have awsome colors the grow fast and look cool at night with all thier sweepers out.i feed mine mysis and oysterfest and get crazy growth out of it.make sure you have calcium up or you wont get much growth.i have never seen it like that on the bottom of the plug but i never looked at mine since it encrusted the boulder it was on the frag disc is still in there somewere.lol

Yeah i am pretty sure the guy working there had no idea by the way he was responding to my questions. They were asking 39.00 and got it for 29.00. I have been researching and i got screwed up myself lol

Maybe i will just put it on its own rock in the front sandbed near the corner were it cant make contact with anything else.

that is a great price for that mixed war coral and its healthy to.they look bad sometimes after shipment but once they acclimate they grow and you have the red and blue it will be deep red with green eyes and it will look like someone took blue paint and splashes it on.cool colormorph.get a decent rock you want him to encrust.and they do have huge sweapers and allot of them .they also like to be fed.gl i would love to have gottent that piece for 29.00$ good score

when it starts to grow and gets a healthy the part that is on top that looks like the red is fading is actually blue or purple its first to lose color and allot of people think it bleaching but its not thats blue /purple

I fed it thawed frozen cyclopeeze after lights out last night and it clinged to tons of it. Then today for about two hours in the middle of full lighting its tenicles were completly out from all over it:eek1: Here are some shots with the tenicles out. They are bad shots but you can make them out.

try to find a piece of LR that has a hole large enough for some epoxy and the base of thye frag plug. I'd just glue/epoxy it in place like a golf tee and let is continue encrusting all the way down to the rock. Nice find:beer:

it will definitely grow off the plug much, much faster if its attached to something (superglue, epoxy, etc). same goes for cyphastrea and other encrusting lps

RL321, you're way too close to focus with your camera. See how only the very background of your last pic is in focus? You should be at least the distance from the frag to that sharp background further back from where you were standing when you took the pic.

In my opinion, a sharp focused view from a bit further back is much more informative than a blurry closeup.

It does seem like a healthy hungry frag. Nice.
