New Acrylic aquarium - I'm back after 30 y.

Backflow will be prevented as I will add few cm lower smaller tank / sump to collect
all water. on overflow we have 3 exit. 1 is safety and 2 will be to fill left tank / sump.

no sump under the aquarium but by side in moment that pumps stop level remain
the same. No feed to main tank no problems to sump.
The pump which will control and regulate this will be Ecotech Vectra S2 as here flow is not
important as another strong pump is for this Fluval. See pre-order price seams well in EU.
This still need to order. Its main pump and backup when no electricity to move water
across filtration.

almost forgot there is also purchased inside main tank pump reef wave 25 red Sea for shaking well water...see
photos which one i purchased last year allready. and to not made the same beginner mistakes
smaller aquarium for karantena without any pumps only sponge with air bubless...

This is just amazing, what a project. Many of us here in the States would complain about driving an hour out of our way or waiting an extra day for a delivery.

I ordered acrylic in Italy...living in Serbia working across world and when was ready I have also
daughter in Italy I sitt in my car and one way was 1100 km. Pick aquarium, visit daughter few days
than back 1100 km Italy - Slovenia - Croatia - border of Serbia custom asked me; what is this?
I say ah its plastic for flowers for fair next month. We fill earth and flowers inside for decoration. ;)
She say ok gooooo...than STOP. and what is this another pipe transparent also? I replied: Ah we think to
put rocks inside white one but its stupid idea. She say ah yes very. hahahhaa
as when you exit EU to Serbia is custom tax for anything over 100 Euro. Parasites I call this.
As Im missing marine aquarium nothing was problem - ah also I get very good price for
acrylic not even 1000 EUro at the end. I suposse in US this is triple price?
1.5 cm acrylic 130 cm long 75 cm height and 60 cm wide.

Thanks for all welcoming and your experience about drilling acrylic as overflow saw was
of course planned for glass. Need to drill for overflow 2 holes and 2 smaller on top supports
for return lines to aquarium.
The only problem is flow pump inside aquarium as magnet delivered with pump is not keep
well pump on 1,5 cm thick wall - but found stronger magnet to buy in Netherland Ocean shop.
They exaggerated for price 90 Euro only for magnet but will take it. Original not keep pump well fail
with small touch of finger. Reefwave 25 Red Sea pump. Im not stingy but come one 90 Euro. FO.
in my sector of electrical energy projects means Fiber Optical. :)

This magnet is up to 3 cm thickness of aquarium.

So, I was installing it on a traditionally braced (plastic brace). The instructions were not clear that if drilling a braced aquarium to put the hole/drill template on the inside.

As a result, my overflow sits a bit low and the water level was about 1/4” (6.35mm) below the bracing.

ok thanks if I understand well I need to place template for drilling from inside while drilling. i have on top strong support and if i put template inside I will not be able to clean inside overflow comb as its not enough space...see photo. Than i will lover a little template as my height of aquarium is 75 cm will be no issue I think in this way few cm lower...
And first fish is allready inside :)

I appologise my acrylic i correct its 1.5 cm thick. Not 2 cm as i was thinking.
Anyway flow pump inside magnet is not strong to keep even if they marked up to 1.5cm

here is some photos today what you think will be too low level?
i placed inside part 2 cm from top low from top aquarium support to be able to clean with some brush inside.

i think correct me if im wrong - if i close for 1-2 cm entrance of overflow with some adjustable plastic with 2 -3 plastic bolts and nut will be enough flow through or will drasticaly lower water to? see photo what i mean now temporary only with yellow tape.
In this case water level from top of aquarium will be approx. only 3 cm from top.

or if will be too low level in aquarium also to add something like this? complete covered to protect that fish and snails ect not jump inside rising outside original part and cover top with this comb??? EVen if i think no need...

The way your tank is designed I *think* you’ll be fine putting the template on the outside. I don’t think you’ll need to make a weir at all. I believe that overflow is designed to work with tanks like your’s.

My tank is your standard glass with plastic bracing. See how the plastic extends downward about an inch? That’s why I had to make the weir. I don’t believe you’ll need to do that.

Thanks. But if i put template on outside as they suggested in manual up to the top
of aquarium / not to the end but under the 1,5 cm thick of inside angle support
or how you call this...than inside I dont have any space to clean inside as strong
support around edges is quite wide. 3,5 cm and its covering completely inside
overflow top opening part.
For this reason I lowered inside part. Lets see as soon wil drill. With small brush
will be able to clean inside if i lover for 2 cm from support. (how you call this
all around with 2 bridges to keep tank to not bend front and rear side mostly
used in glass aquariums...?)
See photo

Direct sun on aquarium question;

The second question is aquarium will divide living room from balcony where was old windows
and now on balcony is sliding door with second glass with aluminum / wood frames.
Asking members who placed aquarium on direct sunlight if they know how this glass will
protect from sun radiation.

Glass is 3-ple E-low with Argon gas inside and outside glass is Stop Sol blue one.
6 mm STOPSOL SUSI DARK BLUE TOUGHENED GLASS

12 mm Super spacer gray
GD 677 Poliuretan kit
Argon gas
4 mm FLOAT CLEAR GLASS
12 mm Super spacer gray
GD 677 Poliuretan kit
Argon gas
6 mm CG Premium LOW-E 1.1 GLASS

As i read description almost 100 % of UV is stopped with this way that I purchased.
Also direct heat from sun will be reduced drastically.
I know about algae on direct sun exposure but zebrasomas and others that i had in previous one
love it all day harvesting crazy.

Living room will have new air condition and dehumidifier of course. Did I will need some
curtain or venezian sun protection or no problems?
New windows new experience was funny - when they installed windows it was winter time
and I touch glass under the sun and was hot inside when outside was -4 Celsius...???
Than I realised that they rotate glass wrongly :) outside part inside. But very interesting that
this glass radiate heat inside of sun in hard cold winter. Rotating winter summer will help a lot LOL

They rotate properly after.

Oh, I see the bracing would cover the top of the internal part of the overflow. If you lower it, you’ll either have to accept a lower water level in the tank or create a weir (like I did) out of acrylic and nylon nuts/bolts in the overflow.

If you haven’t found a stronger magnet, you can always place similarly sized magnets (with similar field lines) on top of the original one that came with the pump. It might not be as pleasing to the eye, but stacking magnets will certainly increase the strength.

So, it appears that the eShopps overflows were designed for rimless tanks.

Here is the thread where I talked about installing my overflow and the water level in the tank being too low. Unfortunately, the pictures are now missing from that thread. But, here's what I did. I found nylon bolts/nuts (red circles) that would fit through the slots in the overflow. I then cut a piece of acrylic (green rectangle) and drilled holes to accommodate the bolts. I put the bolts through the acrylic, positioned the acrylic inside the overflow and put the bolts through the slots in the overflow. I then screwed the nuts onto the bolts to hold the acrylic in place. I then adjusted the level of the acrylic piece until the water level in the tank was where I wanted it. Hope this helps.
