Blue Starfish

I purchased this from All Pets this weekend. Anyone ever own one of these? Anything I should know? He is hidden all the time.

i'ts called a blue linkia and generally they die a slow death in our tanks...if they don't die within the first few days of introduction to your tank.

no one really knows what they eat, just that if you dont have a huge tank with TONS of live rock with PRISTINE conditions and absolutely no salinity flutuations, then it is gonna die.

problem is the stores and online vendors KNOW this is an issue and they still keep buying and selling them...

I've had one (my girls picked it) for almost a year now -- it's doing great -- ymmv.

I actually just moved it from my 90g reef to my 29g nano as i've added two Harlequin shrimp recently and my girls didn't like the idea of the star becoming dinner :)

Are there any other shrimp that eat starfish? I have two ghost shrimp and 3 peppermint shrimp in the tank.

J

Harlequin shrimp only eat starfish. That is their only food source.

If your concerned about the shrimp eating a starfish in your tank, you are fine with the species you have.

As far as I know, there isn't another common or lesser common type of shrimp that you can get at a LFS that will eat your starfish.

I've had one in a tank that I care for for over a year. I don't do anything special and it looks great. It's typically on the LR, but sometimes I see it on the glass.

if someone needs to pass on a har shrimp for a while I have lots of astirea stars that could use a clean up
