New addition

I just finished acclimating a new juvi blueface to my 220. My PBT went nuts!! It was really starting to do some major damage to the blueface. I tried to catch the PBT but it hide in the rocks the second I placed the net in the tank. I was forced to place the blueface in an isolation tank to save his life. I'm going to leave him in there for at least a few days to see if the PBT will get use to the sight of him. If this doesn't work I'll be looking for suggestions on how to catch the PBT w/ out tearing apart the entire tank.

This happened to me couple of years ago when I added the BF and had to take it out for two months to get it fat before putting it back. No problem the second time around.

Yes!!! THe PBT is history if it still attacks the blueface.

I said the same thing everytime when I add a new fish especially when it's a Bandit. Somehow I'm still a bit attached to it as it was one of the first fish in the tank.

How long have you had the PBT?

I have never understood getting rid of an existing fish for a new one because they don't get along. I just think the new one should go!

Just my opinion though. I also get very attached to my fish...

Hopefully it will work out and you can keep both!

Give it 3-4 days for the PBT to calm down. I go through this every time I add a new fish.

I agree. Different fish but my Niger Trigger harasses all new fish for a day. Nothing to serious though. You do have to be careful they don't kill each other but they often will work it out.

I've had the PBT for about 3 months or so. The blueface is a must in my tank. Hince my user name. I had one for 6 years until we had that huge blackout that lasted over a week. It was also a juvi when I got it & I loved to watch the change to adult hood. This tank will be mainly angels. That is my real passion in this hobby. So far the PBT keeps attacking the box the blueface is in. Hopefully it will settle down. I'll give it at least a week. I'm not looking forward to tearing apart the tank to remove the PBT.

Here's some pics.

Fair enough...that makes sense then. I should have guessed by your user name ;)

That is a gorgeous fish.

Blueface are my favorite large angels too...hopefully the powder blue will chill out and everyone will get along.

Good luck.

If you can't catch the PBT, try rearranging rockwork, adding the blueface with lights out, etc. Since the BF is a juv, do you have a tank you could grow it up in? I've done that with several large fish I got as small juveniles, in a 55. My reason has been to get them big enough that my Brazilian dragon moray doesn't eat them, but it could work to get the angel bigger, and more assertive.

Just an update on the evil pbt. I tried two more times to release the blueface with no luck. Everytime I did it the pbt immediately started chanting Kill Kill Kill. I had to remove about 1/2 of my lr in order to catch the pbt. Wasn't so terrible because I wanted to rescape the lr any how. The pbt is now swimming in my sump & the blueface is enjoying his much larger surroundings. Hopefully someone will buy the pbt from me soon.

The mirror method has worked for me with my Achilles. He can be a brute at times, especially to new additions. But after a couple of days of the mirror, he seems to forget about the other fish.

+1 of the rearranging rockwork with lights off... if you want to catch the BPT in your large tank its going to be really really hard...

Possible idea is too try to close down on him, get a divider and get him into maybe 1/4 to 1/5 or less of the tank and and use small sticks or the back of your net to scare them out and take out some rocks just in case (or move the rocks to the other side)...Then put it in your refuge if you have one or in QT for 2 days. In the mean while release the blueface and let him get some territory and then put the BPT in after the 2 days.

Wow, choosing between a beautiful PB, and a BF. I'm glad I don't have to make that decision.
I would end up with another tank.

We called our powder blue tang "Voldemort" he was so wicked. When he went after my beloved Midas Blenny, I pulled him out and took him to the LFS where he took up residence in an enormous round reef tank. Its a beautiful fish but I just don't like bullies.
