New addition

These are one of my favorite angels, I am really tempted to add one to my reef, who cares about corals? haha, I wish I could put one in my FO tank :(

I just added a new tank mate to the FOWLR. I'm really excited because this has always been one of my dream angels. It's already eating pellets & picking at the LR. I'm so glad the PBT is now gone because I wouldn't want this new addition to have any stress. It was funny watching the flagfin try to intimidate the new fish. The flagfin charged & the new angel charged right back sending the flagfin scurring. Here's a pic of the new fish. What do you guys think?? Gorgeous or what??

That's a really great fish, too bad you've got dried salt on the front of the glass ;)

It's not salt. It's a water drop.:D

Very nice and good luck with your Regal. How big is it?

I added one that was 4" on Tuesday and found it dead this morning. It was swimming around the first day then it went downhill afterward. I don't know if it was shipping shock or not but the box was leaking and Fedex had the box inside a big plastic bag so it must have been leaking at their facility. The sad part is the fish that was in the bag that was leaking (which had barely enough water in it that the fish was flat with the mouth open) is doing well now. The styrofoam was cracked and heating packs wasn't even warm so it may have been too much stress for such a sensitive fish.

sorry to hear about your loss. From what online vendor did you get the fish, hopefully it is covered under a guarantee of some sort.

Got it from Atlantis (RC sponsor) and they have a 7 days guaranty. I emailed them Friday night and got an email early this morning then got another one in the afternoon with question and I replied back. Now I'm waiting for their response.

blface, fantastic pick up! I hope he does as great for you, as mine's been. I recently added a Sargassum Trigger and he's been semi-reclusive as well. Eats greats and loves food, but when there's nothing in the tank, he goes back into the rocks. When first added, the Naso Tang give him a lot of heat. He's slowly becoming better though. Did you notice any aggressive from any of your other fish?

this thread inspired me to purchase a blueface from Diver's Den. it arrives tomorrow. :D

AquaKnight, I don't know if I ever mentioned it, but I really love the aquascape and general look of your tank. It's a nice showcase for the fish.

Could you describe your set-up? i.e., pounds of live rock/sand, sump, filtration, lights, maintenance regime, refugium(?). Your tank looks bigger than a 125. Is that what it is?

Thanks Lisa! I've gotten the "looks better then a 125gal" comment a good number of times. It's really a testimate to the two island aquascape. Huge fan. Helps the fish a bunch when they want to distance themselves from each other, they just go to the other island.

Setup is: ~200lbs of LR. Most of the left side rocks were collected dead from construction sites in South Florida. That base shelf rock is over 18" long (has to fit in the tank longways and weighs over 30lbs), with 3, 15lbs boulders holding it up. The tower on the right has an arcylic rod drilled through the rocks. About 240lbs of sand. 200lbs of that are H/D quikcrete, with 40lbs of argonite over top for looks. Bed depth is 5" in most places with the obviously expception of the center. All of the bottom pieces of rock are pushed all the way through the sand. I believe the rocks help aerate the DSB. The sump is a simple walmart rubbermaid (about 20 gals) with a small rubbermaid inside acting as the return area. There is a seperate 29gal refugium in the stand as well. I had planned on a Macroalgae-Predator setup, after changing plans after I lost all of my previous fish to a Velvet/Ich cocktail. so I tacked on the fuge.

Sump/fuge pic

Circulation is a Mag 18 return (throttled back), a Maxi-jet 1200, and that big ole Wave2k dead center. Fish seem to enjoy playing in the waves. I've been meaning to get 2 Koralia 4's, or another maxijet and mod them for the ends of the tank. Skimmer is a AquaC EV-240 with a Mag 18 pump. Also running an Aquanetics 25watt UV and a Little Fishies Phosban reactor. Lights are 2, 175watt MH's, with 2 110watt 48" VHO actnics.

Maintenance is a 25gal change every 2 weeks and I use mostly Kalkwasser and a bit of 2-part to buff. I do dose Iodine and a 'trace elements' now that I have 6 large photosyenthenic gorgonians. I dose the day before a water change. I test everything I can amm, nitri/nitra, pH, cal/alk, mag, silicates. For the untestables, I figure if the levels are low, dosing only helps. If they're high, the water change will help bring them down.
