I put a new Kole Tang and Spotted Hawk in qt yesterday afternoon. Both are swimming around their new temporary home, but I haven't seen either one eat yet. I have Green Marine seaweed in a clip, and just added a few pellets. Hopefully they adjust soon and start eating. We'll see.

My kole refuses pellets and eats nori sparingly, dosent kill it like me yellow does. He loves him some brine, mysis though.

Well, They're bith still swimming around, exploring. I need to do a water change this afternoon. Replace the Green Marine. I want to see them eat!! I'm going to hypo them for a few weeks, then begin adding DT water slowly to match pH and salinity. Gotta get some new test kits. Haven't used them in my main tank in forever, and they are expired.

Still have not seen them eatting. Both still swimming. Did a 5gal waterchange last night. I'll do another tonight. I'm also picking up new ammonia, nitrate and nitrite kits today.

I would feed them something better than pellets and dry seaweed...mysis, live enriched brine, worms...fresh, live, frozen - get them eating!!

Yup. I have a bottle of Reef Nutrition Arcti Pods. I'll try that next. If not, it's another trip to the LFS.

Watched the Kole's Tang eating the Green Marine and the Arcti Pods yesterday. The spotted hawk still looks happy. I haven't seen him eat, but of course he spends most of his time sittng around watcheng everything. no signs of stress or disease. Didn't do a water change last night like I should have, so need to do one today.

Had a slight ammonia spike. Did a 10g water change. been a week, SG down to 1.20. I'll do another wc tonight. Kole's still eating well. everything looking good so far.

Did another 10g water change last night to try to control the ammonia. That's been the most difficult issue for me. I used dt water for changes. I'm using my old 40g tall for qt. Anyhow, Kole's tang is eating well, and the spotted hawk still looks good. It's only been a week but I'm dying to get them into the dt. If I cannot keep the ammonia in check, I may have to before they get sick and die from the ammonia spikes.

Day 10. Kole's tang eating and swimming, Spotted Hawk swimming and observing. They both look good. Still having a problem keeping ammonia down, even with 10g water changes per day. The 40g tall I'm using is just too big for me to maintain, but it is what I had. I ran out of salt and have to wait till my order from DR. F&S gets here. I have about 16g of fresh salt water to get me by. I'm going to go out today to get something for the ammonia. Either API Ammo lock or Seachem Prime. Anyone out there have a preference? I'm leaning toward the Prime.

I'm going back to Petco to buy 2 20g tanks for $1/gal. Going to use one for a qt and move my two new additions. Just to much hassle to maintain the 40g tall as a qt. The other I'll convert later to a rdsb and grow mangrove.

I would suggest either Seachem Prime or Amquel to bind ammonia. Of the two, I find Amquel works faster.

I went to Petco last night (lfs was closed for the holiday). Ended up getting the Prime. I had both in my hands, and chose the one I was most familiar with. They did not have the Seachem test kit that tests for both types of ammonia, so I'll have to make a trip to the lfs today for one. Thanks anyway for the input.

If you can't find the Seachem test, you can buy one of those Seachem ammonia badges, since they read free ammonia only...which is what you're interested in.
