New Anemone not attaching?

Good evening everyone.

I received two bta the other day from a friend in a personal crisis. Although i do not think the one is indeed a bta. Theone that i know for sure immedietly attached to a rock and did a couple days of hiding but has now come to the front of the tank and is eating we'll. The other one has never attached to anything and for a whole day just floated in the current until imoved the direction of the power head in fear he would get hurt blowing around the rocks. It has now been 3 days since he has been in there and has not ate or attached. And the clown that took to him right away has tried repeatedly to take him food.
I think he is a rittiri?
And if so i am alittle worried as i know i do not have enough light. Only 600 Watts of PC on a 72 inch tank that is 18 inches deep. Just want someone to confirm or inform me of what i am dealing with and if he indeed something i can not have in my tank i will see if i can take him to the lfs.

Thanks So much
Lisa

doesn't really look like a BTA to me. It can be hard to tell though in that condition. Does it have little whitish "spots" on the bottom of his oral disk? I think it may be H. crispa purple is a faily common color for crispa.

I would see if he wants to set his foot into the sandbed.

BTW: he looks pretty healthy as far as his body and color go.

Hopefully Scott or Gary or Phil will be able to chime in with more info.

Thanks for the response:

Okay so should i dig it a little hole into the sand and just place him in there?
And do i have enough light? Also i am glad he still looks good to someone else as we'll. I just wish he would eat. That kinda worries me but i am new to the anemone scene:)
I was excited when the clown went in there immedietly thinking that would help him settle but not yet.If this is indeed what he is where for flow should i try to get him to attach?

Thanks for all your help i appreciate it

Lisa :)

Let's get someone with more experience than me to confirm an ID first but if he's H. crispa then I would recommend Mh or T5 I'm afraid that PC are not very good at penetrating deep water.

Nice looking saddleback btw.

To get him to attached to the sandbed I would take a clear tubberware bowl and punch/drill holes in it and place over him with a small rock to keep the bowl from floating. When he is dug in pretty good remove the cover cafefully (not to get sand all over him). Also, adjust the powerheads accordingly if you see him blowing around too much when he gets a good hold.

Thanks again for the response everyone. Okay we'll i will wait till the verdict is in on what he is...lol
And yes my little saddleback is a fat little piggy. It is amazing how protective they are with anemones..:) It was funny when the anemone was blowing around in the tank cause it would do a rolling motion and the saddleback would still try and stay in it. My kids watched for hours and laughed thinking he was crazy for doing it.
Hopefully i can get an id today and decide what i need to do with him. If i need to take him to a lfs i most definetly will in hopes that he finds a tank which will keep him happy and healthy:)

If it turns out you don't have the lighting for it, you may want to see if there's a local reef club near you and offer the nem there. I know if it were me, I'd feel more comfortable getting it to someone who knows what they're doing, and it's one less transfer which will be easier on the nem.

LTAs and H. crispas can be easy to confuse, at least in my experience, but I think a major and easy to spot difference is the color of the foot. I think ltas have an oragne-ish foot, the crispa (at least mine) does not.

I don't have any idea what it is, but I'm not one of the experts you're waiting for, so that's okay :)

Somebody has to know what this guy is!!!!
He is still not attaching. I tried to put him in the stand but he made himself clow away as soon as i removed the cover. Still looks healthy just not sure why he is not attaching. It has now been 4 days.

If you need more pics of his base or underneath please just let me know and i can try and get some.

Thanks again
Lisa

Also now my other confirmed bta completely shrunk down to the size of a golf ball and all his tentacles are all skinny. Colour on his base is good and he is still attached to the rock just looking funny.

H. crispa has more verrucae ('bumps' along the bottom of the oral disc and column) and they are more adhesive, tightly gripping rocks, etc. The outer ring of tentacles tends to be longer than the inner ones in H. crispa, also (as opposed to M. doreensis). Any chance of getting a shot of under the disc?

Lisa, I have sent you a PM but disregard that (I need to learn how to read :p)

I would be more than happy to take that anemone off your hands if you need me to.. I am in Calgary as well, and would have no problem taking the anemone if he needs a new home.

I have a 20g with 250w of HQI lighting . If he needs a temporary home to settle in, he's more than welcome to my tank.

*edit* (man I need coffee) .. I lied, I won't be around this weekend, I am leaving for camping tomorrow evening and returning monday afernoon. I can take him on monday though for sure... please let me know, as if this is a purple crispa I may be interested in keeping him long-term.

Scott (going to find coffee :p)

P.P.P.P.S:  , I should have noted that IMO it looks like H. Crispa as well, but it's too hard to be 100% certain.

Lisa, check your PM's! :) I lost your number .... already... haha...
