Took some more pics. Sorry for the filthy glass and tank, and microbubbles. Also, this fish is very shy, so when the big bad scary camera comes out, hes very reclusive, so I have to take the pics from a mile away.
The development of this fish really baffles me. Its lost almost all the yellow from the mask, save there is still yellow around the eye itself. The body has become a lot more brown, the tail more yellow, and there is a very prominant white stripe retaining down the face. Very weird.

The edges are clear. It still has the slight banding towrads the caudal penduncle.

This fish continue to blow my mind. While still VERY shy (I will try to get some more pics), he continues to change his appearance as he grows.
He is now starting to show some feature atypical of a common blueface. The yellow around the eyes has all but dissappeared. There is but a faint yellow ring aorund each eye. the face appears primaily blue, with faint white lining, with the most pronouced just behind the eye, going from from top to bottom. The body has turn an olive yellowish brown, and the slight barring towards the posterior of the fish has possibly even gotten more pronounced. It is a neon whitish blue against the drab olive body. However, the most interesting changes are occuring on the pectoral fins and the tail. Previously, the pectorals were yellowed, with clear edges, but now there is an electric blue coming right on the fringe of the yellow. The same is occuring on the tail, an intense electric blue edging right at the end of the yellow coloration.

I think the curiosity would kill me. I'd have to take a fin clip and send it to Luiz Rocha. After all, how often do we get a chance to confirm whether an atypical specimen is a color morph, or a hybrid? And how often can you potentially confirm the species contribution?

Id love too, but h'd be the hardest fish to catch out. He is really really shy, and I have no idea where he sleeps. Everytime I look at night, he's nowhere to be found.

So, due to this fish's shyness, it is still extraordinarily hard to get a good photo. It quite unusual, because hes a glutton for food, but just is wary of activity. A good friend came over, and was talking some photos, and got a blurry one, but it shows some of the magnificence in the unusual coloration transformation.
Note the electric blue outlining along the dorsal, caudal, and anal fins (as well as coming along on the pectorals), the absence of yellow masking (the only notable yellow is a ring around each eye), and now, most striking, the silver white thin barring that is becoming more pronounced and prominent on the body. Originally, it was merely along the back of the body, but you can see it is also starting on the body. Its almost a "zebra" striping pattern. The caudal fin, and dorsal is getting a sharp dark "dappling" towards the body.
This fish continue to amaze me in its transformation. I SO wish I could get a good picture of it. I have so tempted to actually catch him out to get better pics, and then return him.

The other thing to consider about this fish, is that is is growing as well. H's probably about 5" now. The silver streaking seems to be increasing too. I dont know if the base color is just getting darker, making it more visible than before, or it is actually acquiring mor striping, but it still baffles me. The dorsal and anal fin are losing yellow, if anything, while the tail is becoming a stronger and stronger colored yellow.
