New babies

NYA was very pro with my fish too. I've always loved kuiteri but have also heard they were aggressive. I might pick up a leopard or two more. My wife always says, "Are we going to to get ANYTHING other than wrasse?!?" No dear, no we won't. hahahaha

Where did you pick up your lunate wrasse? I had a trio at one time, but unfortunately I don't have any of them anymore. I had the male for well over two years, before a faulty heater and lost both females at different times. One never recovered fromthe move from the Lfs to the QT.

Did you see the article on reef builders about these two? I tried to post the link but I guess I can't...

It's cool that these hybridize in the wild. Congrats on your purchase!

here;s the same fish i had on reef builders. this is it flashing.

pintails, and lunatus are being collected by the dozens now for the first time in years by RVS fish world. and this time many are alpha males or terminal in coloration. rarely they also offer C. brunneus and, this hybrid above.

If you haven't seen their Facebook page yet, you should. The number of pintails they hVe are insane.

Nice lemon, having them together you can really see why there are hybrids. They are really similar in appearence. C. brunneus looks cool too, have you owned one?

that hybrid tail showing the trident shape is a mix of crescent + lancet from two parents. there are more pics of these fish and their parents in the rb article.

i love brunneus and it's very interesting. almost fully black almost diabolical looking. i have not owned one but i would like to.

the hybrid male i have is very aggressive and spawns with two female pintails regularly. i had to remove my terminal pintail and am keeping it in another tank with its own females.

What's your wrasse list looking like these days?

i've trimmed down my species list tremendously these days. deciding to keep a few of my favorite species rather than mixing too many together.

in my display i have that male hybrid and two females, and in my smaller system, a trio of pure blooded pintails. next month i'm waiting on two P. piscilineatus flashers from mauritius.

also have a maldivian Terelabrus sp, the white one.

not really a wrasse, but something related. i just got him not too long ago and he's been awesome. anyway sorry for the off topic.

I hope you get the piscilineatus, got my fingers crossed for a terminal male. All the ones I see are young males. Any aggression towards wrasses from the terelabrus? Beautiful pics Lemon

nope the terelabrus is an angel.

i'm getting two female pisci. the males are very much more expensive for me and with that kind of money i can get multiple tiny females and grow my own male. kevin kohen's amazing alpha male pisci on his wordpress was a female grown. and it's now a big tuna!

it's going to be slower, but it'll be fun.

Not a great picture, but here is the Pintail (C. cf lanceolatus)I picked up. eating and doing ok so far.

I completely missed this thread on here until now.

I would like to point out one point of possible confusion; there is a BIG difference between C. cf. lanceolatus and C. lanceolatus. The latter is only known to the depths of Japan and has only been offered in the states in very few numbers (and at thousands of dollars). C. cf. lanceolatus is actually much closer (genetically) to C. lunatus, and is found in areas south of Japan and into the Philippians.

C. lanceolatus; big, deep (rare), very expensive, and quite aggressive

C. cf. lanceolatus: much smaller, more readily available (relatively), and quite mild in temperament

Some confusion was created on these two in the last year or so by some individuals and blogs using the common name of "Pintail"; Pintail used to be used in reference to cf. lanceolatus exclusively, but some started applying it also to C. lanceolatus. As a purest, it's only appropriate towards the former, but I digress. :)
