New Blackfin from Reef Flo

This is by no means a press release from the company. I am a dumb schmoo that happened to be in the right place at the right time.
I needed a new Dart. I called Reef Flo and told them the situation. They said that they were fixing to field a new line in March, the Blackfins. I know they already have a Blackfin line, but there are completely different animals. They said they needed people to field test them, so I said sign me up!! I got my pump today and will have it online tomorrow to be able to give a real review. I was told its ok to post pics so here goes. Again, I am in no way attached or from Reef Flo. Just wanted to put the new pump out there. (I think I'm the first in my town with one!!)
This is the 3600 BTW. Its compared to the Barracuda, not the Dart. I figured why not step it up a notch? I should mention that it comes with 2 female adapters, they are just not pictured.

First impression is heft. This thing has some meat on its bones. Compared to my Dart, this thing definitely has that 2 Bulls on the Hill felling if you know what I mean. You can see very clean and distinct machine marks. No slag or trash anywhere. Im not going to open it up for pics. Sorry, don't wanna mess up warranty, just encase.
Here are some teasers. Ill have more pics up tomorrow as I just got off work. Gotta get kids fed and stuff.

SWINGRRRR, anything new to report?

I am considering the BlackFin 2500 for a return on my ~300 gal system.

Sorry, I haven’t been getting email updates till now. I just figured no one cared.

I only have good things to say about the pump. I have it plumbed into a 1" manifold with 4 x 3/4" Locline outlets. I run a 135 gal, BB and this is enough flow to keep everything off the bottom. The first pump I had, developed a loud rattle after the first couple of days, as well as leaking from the rear seal. A new one with a return sticker was sent in about 2 days. So far, I have not had a single problem from the new one. I will say it’s loud, but I think its just nature of the beast kind of thing. The loudness is what I consider the electrical HUMMMMMMMM from the pump. I put alot of foam under it, and in-between my pipes and stand. After re-doing my plumbing for the bigger return lines, 1 pipe was rubbing against the stand causing the pipe to resonate the vibration from the pump. It’s still noticeable, but not nearly as bad.

I would suggest this pump to someone that can live with a little noise. If you have to have a dead silent tank, this pump is not for you. My tank is in the dinning room, center of the house, and we have no problems, but you always hear it. This is the first “big” pump I’ve ever had, so I really have nothing to compare it to. My Dart had bad bearing from the get go, so it’s not a good comparison.

Overall I am very pleased with my pump, and the service from RF.

Its warm to the touch, but nothing that would make you pull your hand back. No more heat than a computer power supply I suppose.
Im not sure what to compare it to. I think my fan in the canopy makes more noise than the pump when it ramps up. The fan is temperature controller so sometimes, it really gets moving. When the fan is off though, you hear the pump.

If anyone has ever stood next to a large power panel, think shopping mall supply, thats what it sounds like to me. Just a constant humm, or buzz. Im used to it now and hardly ever hear it. My tank is in the dinning room. There is just a half wall between it and the living room. We have not had to increase the TV volume or anything like that. It just makes noise. Like I said, this is my first large external pump.

Ill try to get a video of it up in couple of days since there seems to be some interest. All I have to shoot video is my Iphone so it wont be the best Hollywood quality.

Judging from the pics, What I do like are the threads on the outside of input and the output, the added heat sinks to the body and the placement of the front seal.

Could I ask you to do me a favor?
Could you please post the really overall dimensions (i.e. the width from the widest part including any electrical component) and the same for the height and length?

Also, if you could tell me height of the center line of the suction side of the pump (where the center of the pipe would be for plumbing the suction side of the pump)?

I think I am going to order the 2500 myself but just want to get a good idea of how I will be able to plumb it.

Thank you.

My Father just bought two of the blackfin 6000's and one 2500.. he still down here in FL visiting.. He'll be on his way back up to MI to install them here in a little while.. I'll be flying up there to help him out for a weekend.. I'm leaving FL on April 18th. I'll try to take as many pics as possible.. When I get back.. I'll answer as many questions as possible..

BTW, Not all the pumps will be on at once.. just one 6000 and the 2500.. The extra 6000 is just for a backup pump. his system is set up on the first floor of his house and the sump and filtration is all in the basement..

The 6000 will be for the main return and the 2500 is for a cl.

He saw my system while visiting and wanted to upgrade/re-plumb his system.

Hopefully tonight Ill be able to get you measurements. Since Friday I have been having 12 and 17 hours days. My only day off was Sunday which was full of Church activities.

Thanks, but I actually was provided this info from Chris (the owner of Reeflo). Also, I placed my order for the BlackFin 2500 and will have it Friday.

Awesome!!! Be sure and post some pics.

Chris can be hard to get ahold of, but once you do, he'll do anything in the world to help you.
