New Blackfin from Reef Flo

I ordered the 3600 today. I would think is comparable to a dart noise wise. We will see,

OK, So I got my BlackFin 2500 all hooked up and running. I am please so far. The noise is on the order of the Dart, it might be a bit louder. It is also larger then the dart. The new external threads and included union connectors are a real plus!

Looks good there Mkarston...

Installing mine today, I got the 3600. Upon a 1-2 seconnd dry run just to test it out before i drill my sump that its working properly. I do notice its louder than my last dart. Not too bad, def alot more quiet than my old iwaki's!!!
This pump will be my return pump with a manifold to pump water to my Ca/Rx, Media reactors, and new chiller. That should steal around 1000 gph from the pump overall. The return with about 12-14 psi and feeding the manifold should bring me to about 12-1400 gph roughly on my return.
Thinking it will be under or around 200 watts give or take.
I will leave an outlet to feed maybe a frag tank down the road, or other equipment.
Adding some spa flex to the bulkhead and pump connections should alleviate most resonance.
Overall its a BEEFY pump. Nice heavy duty wet end chunky motor.
Looks like the wet end is the same size as my 3/4 hp pool pumps!
It should have some umph!
It will be driving 2 penductors so i should add a bit of flow to the tank.
I'll post a pic or 2 when its set and done, Maybe a quick vid.

I went down to 1.5 on my 2 inch intake and output on my 3600.
Id imagine going from a 1.5 to a 1 inch on the 25oo would be the same. No probs with the 3600. Just waiting for some glue to dry. Had 2 leaks i had to address, But all looks good considering how much plumbing i changed.
Did not get the chiller up, I'll save that for tomorrow. Shew, crawling around under a 300 gal is back breaking!
I have to dial down the pump till i get the chiller online. I have about 5-600 gph too much on my returns.
Overall pretty quiet. Not quiet as a dart, But its pretty good.
Like stated i would not put this in a livingroom, I would have kept the laguna on. But for my needs it's perfect. I'll have the penductors weds. Hoped to have them in by now.

Creetin, Thanks man. You will have to share some photos once you get it all finished and your leaks worked out.

das75, Yeah, I already had the hole for the 1" bulkhead in my sump. I called and talked to Chris (the Reeflo owner) if this would be a problem. He said it isn't ideal, but shouldn't be a problem at all. He also advised to adapt it to a larger diameter as soon as possible after the bulkhead. So thats what I did, and I've had no problems with it.

Couple of pics, Too sore to get under there and do some more today. I have some time to get the chiller in this week.
Heres a couple of quick pics.

BTW i eliminated around 100+ watts of pumps and such by adding the blackfin. Not to mention the heat the laguna added.
Less work for the chiller to do this summer.

3 days of run time and all is well. Leaks are fixed and good to go.
The pump has gotten a little quieter. Not much just a little.
The pump is slightly warm to the touch. Very mild.
I was initially scared by these pumps for the noise. I ran iwaki's before and hated every minute i had them running.
This pump is tolorable becuase ts in the basement and i dont hear it up here. The old iwaki's i could hear across the house upstairs. LOL

Hows the others here?? Any probs?

Mines still pumping away. Its still kinda loud, but better than it was.
Ive contemplated selling it and getting a controllable PH due to the noise.

All is well here. I finally got all my flow rates dialed in the way I wanted, but am just working out some micro bubble issues.

Try a mousepad under the base of the pump. I added one and the pump is very quiet now. I am very happy with it after i did that!!!

Here's a pic for size comparison, you can see that the fan shroud end of the pump fits easily in my wife's hand. It looks like a dart on roids to me.

I have a piece of 2" open pore foam (think eggcrate on old peoples beds) under mine and its still loud. Its not the harmonics, its the electrical hum of it.

I just took the surface temperature of my Blackfin 6000 and the hottest point on the whole pump body was only 97 Degrees!! This pump runs COOOOOOOL!!

I am getting 2.15 amps,,, 245 watts,,, and a PF of 59.9

This is a blackfin 3600 with around 12 ft of backpressure.
