I am new to keeping brain coral. I am wondering if this brain looks healthy to you, If it is a common type or not(is it cool?), and any tips on care.
The pics were taken at different times today and this was its first full day in the tank. I have it under a 150w DE giesmann 20k with no backing in a 20g high.

It is healthy, common, and cool. At night when the feeding tentacles come out feed it small pieces of shrimp. It will out grow that spot very quickly.

I have already moved the ric to the right of it an i plan to razor the one to the left of it off the glass and move it as well. I realizedit was cramped in there a tad when it expanded.

Thank you all, i like it too.

Is feeding required? I would like to watch it eat but i am a big fan of not putting a bunch of food into my tanks. What would be a nice clean meal for it? I can fight off the other tank inhabitants long enough for it to eat im pretty sure. Thanks for all your comments and the advise.

You have a nice brain there. If you want it to stay as healthy as it is right now you will need to feed it by placing a small piece of shrimp or fish in its tentacles. Don't rely on it grabing particles from the water. I hope you deside to do this because I would hate to see you posting a thread in a few months saying,"why is my brain not opening up like it did?"
Just because an animal is photosynthetic does not mean it shouldn't be fed. Nature designed it to eat therefore it should be fed. Many of the photosynthetic animals we keep will not survive long term without food.
