New BTA...will my False Perc host it?

Somehow I had the urge to call around and look for anemone today. I called Wet Pets San Pablo and they said they had a BTA for $29.99. I didn't have money so I looked in my tank which corals I can trade, so I ended up trading my "not so colorful" 4 headed frogspawn. They gave me $20 for it which I thought was a little low, but l I really wanted the anemone. I think this is a Green Bubble Tip, but I'm not really sure.

Now my question is, can my false percula host this anemone? The anemone is touching my yellow polyps right now, do you think it'll kill it? How does the anemone look by the way?

it possibly can host in it, will it. probably not for a year. J/K. but false percs are really hit or miss with BTA. it took mine well over a year to "find" the 3 in my tank. some people say they go right in. you just never know.
And the bta will sting anything it touches and kill it if it touches enough of for enough time.

My false percs have hosted both GBTA and now 3 new RBTA's

You could urge them by using a stick to kinda scare/urge them near the NEM' once they hid in it... move away to asure him that the NEM his in is safe and is a good home for him....

I've done the same instance to make my false percs host the new NEMS

Your Nem dosn't look close to 2 of my previous GBTA's.... your looks uncolored and bleached???

Bleached? I thought if it's bleached it'd be really light like white.

Nothing wrong with it, it does have some unusual "chamo" look though Regardless of what people say BTAs do come in brown colors.

Mine false percs took about 3 months to find an rbta. I've since taken the anenome out, and now they host in my seio pump. Sigh...

If it is a captive bred clown, it could take months to host. If it was wild caught, it may happen pretty quick.

If you bought the clown from a breeder like Fingerwrinkles (who breeds them with RBTA's), it takes 30 seconds.

I had one clown take about 6 months before it hosted. Since then, it has never left.

Thanks everyone for the response. I'm glad that my anemone isn't bleached, I was starting to worry when delsol told me it was. Anyway so far I guess it's doing good, and it has stayed at the spot I put him at.

So I guess I need to talk to Fingerwrinkles, because I was going to get another clown anyway but I guess I'll wait and buy it from him instead.

fingerwrinkle's onyx/true perc will sure go to the RTBA, I bought 2 different pairs from him and they all host right away upon introduction to the tank. As far as I know I got the last two onyx from him until the parent breed again, but he does have few non-onyn at the moment.

I was just guessing, did not say it was.... I just said it looks uncolored or bleached????? since I was comparing it to my 2 previous GBTA which were GREEN in color and to all other GBTA's that were ALL green as well... sorry if I got you all twisted on that..

the anemone looks healthy to me.

As for the clowns hosting, I think its variable since the anemone is not its natural anemone. My breeding pair of false percula host in a frogspawn, and they took to it instantly. I also have a pair of black ocellaris that will not touch any BTA or H. Crispa that I put in there. I also did an experiment with 3 pairs of juvenile onyx true percula. I put them in 3 separate tanks, 2 with RBTAs and 1 with a H. Crispa and a GBTA. One pair took to the RBTA instantly, 1 pair choose the H. Crispa over the GBTA instantly, and 1 pair instead choose to host in my powerhead, and still does to this day...

so I guess to answer your question, it might host in the anemone, and it might not... give it some time, but be prepared that it might never happen.

I got an RBTA for my orange, likely captive bred, ocellaris. He didn't even blink Eventually, started to go near it (after months, but would just skirt it, not go in. This went on for quite some time. I decided to get a black ocellaris (wild caught) to pair with my orange. The black ocellaris went in within just a few minutes. And, after a day passed, they were both in it together.

Just my story, good luck with yours. The anemone looks healthy, just not green. But, don't despair, they come in many colors, my RBTA is more light in color than some others i've seen, and also is huge, where many split well before they reach this size (9+ inches!)

Well I've been reading and have found that some people try to do a scare tactic to threaten the clown to make them go to the anemone for protection. I did that and instantly my clown went in, but the only problem is that he only goes in there when I try to chase him. Besides that he just roams around the aquarium. What do you guys think that means?

I don't know how others feel, but I try to stress my fish as little as possible. Stress makes them susceptible to disease.

I'd agree that it's probably not a good idea to chase the clown into the anemone. At least you can say it now knows where it is and what it is good for (i.e., protection).

I have a pair of true percs and false percs. They host interchangably in both a RBTA and GBTA. The false percs also like my Macrodactyla doreensis. I used to have a Condylactys gigantea in the same tank. No clown ever went near it.

2 each to his own... I've done that to 3 or 4 sets of my previous clowns for an avge. of 30 secs to a min. ( not overly proding them or anything to harrass them or anything , just enough to show em' an option of where to hide...

Is it a bit stressfull, yeah. but for the long term good of the fish.. I'd do it everytime... In my tank which has 2 1500 seios blowning, it stressfull for a clown that is not that strong of a swimmer to constantly swin to/against the current and not have an anenome to rest and feel secure in.... that's my .02 cents. like I said, 2 each 2 his/her own.
