Hi Gary, I just have a few questions about your tanks that I can't find answers to elsewhere. I'll list them out to make it clearer to read.
1. At your previous house, when you were doing 20% weekly water changes, did you use NSW or ASW, and if it was ASW which salt did you use?
2. Do you know what the head height is from your return pump in the basement to the top of your display tank?
3. How many Hydra's did you use to replace your VHO actinics?
4. How often do you use GFO and GAC, and what are the 'triggers' to let you know it's time to use them?
5. Why do you use an undersized calcium reactor, instead of a "correctly" sized one?
6. Do you use an automatic doser for your DIY liquid two part?
7. You've stopped doing water changes, but what have you done differently to make that possible?

this is a term coined by Joe Yaiullo- the mastermind extraordinaire reefkeeper behind the 20,000 gallon reef display at the Long Island aquarium in New York.

Of course, I'm not suffering a case of either over here. I have deliberately stopped doing water changes to see what gets depleted over time in my aquarium so that I may be aware of what my husbandry skills need to address.
I plan on send in an ICP test in the very near future. This is the most important aspect of Triton method (IN MY OPINION)- to be able to discern what is being depleted in a low to no water change situation in a relatively closed system.

how long have you been without a water change have you seen any positive or negative results

I did a water change the day before you posted this question :rollface:
BECAUSE something went bonkers and my skimmer went nuts draining sump of water (roughly 30 gallons).
So one small exchange in the past several months.
My system is already set up to maintain Ca, dKH and Mg with kalk and CaRx, so those levels remain fine.
I do not have a problem maintaining pH, PO4, nitrates, nitrites or ammonia.
I have yet to send in a Triton test to see what might be depleted or accumulating. Corals and fish look fine... not as stellar as they did with regular partial water changes... but I would expect that to be the case.
I would expect pieces of the puzzle to be better realized once I get results from a Triton test, but working on the new build is my main priority at the moment.
