New build thread

Starting a new 125g build with either a 30 or 40g sump. Frame is based on a member here ( I'm lost for a name ATM ) and skinned in sanded ply. The center brace offers no structural support, it is there for hanging doors only and is removable via wingnuts. Will finish the stand this weekend hopefully minus the sanding.

Got the doors cut out tonight and hung. They won't look like that at all, I need to route some molding for the doors and it should totally change the look. Will also be adding corner molding and possibly some crown on bottom and top.

Will the center brace come out once there's >1200lbs on it? A friend of mne did this and it was really hard to pop out the center brace. We had to hit it with a small sledge to move it.

Looks really good, think thats rocketengineer stant template. Very strong. Will the tank clear the counter tops?

With the 2x6 I shouldn't have any bowing, but I cut my center brace 1/8" short just in case.

The tank will lose about 1 " of side viewing because of the counter top. I'm still putting a 3/4" top on and then factor in the plastic trim of the tank and about 2" sandbed and that is what I'm looking at. Decided I don't like the look of the door, going to cut those down another inch and put a backing strip on

Hey Gary,

I'm located just outside of Greensboro, place called Trinity. About 75 minutes away

Got around to trimming the door tonight, but some 1x2 cut to fit then broke out the router.

I still need to sand the edges. The inside is simply 1/2" sanded ply and the molding is 1/2" finished pine and routerd held together with wood glue.

Hope this helps

Picked up the tank today. Not the highest quality according to some members here, but I'm satisfied with it.

I'm trying to compile a list of hardware and need some help there. Where I really need the help is a return pump.

125g with dual overflows, will install dursos and 40 gallon sump. My head height up to the returns is about 4 ft. I plan to use the pump to supply water back up to the overflows and split it off to feed a refugium. Which return pump would be good for flow, I'd prefer low wattage and quiet if possible and also needs to be submersible.

For flow, I will be using 3 Evolution 1400's.

Lighting is another area I'm not sure on. I will have a canopy and DT dimensions are 72x18x22. I will mainly be keep zoo's, LPS and possibly some easy to keep SPS. I want to go T5 retrofit, what wattages would be recommended ? I'll find the product that meets my needs once I know how much power I need. I will use 2 36" bulbs across X however many I need for coverage.

I think that's it for now.

Thanks

It Looks great takes along time to build a stand a canopy..took me about 2 weeks in my canopy i run 3 250 MH with 8 T5 .the T5 are 39 watt each you might want to go with alittle bite more say 12 T5 so you can get full coverage..Also when i trimed my tank i put the trim up higher to cover the trim on the tank looks cleaner. ill post a photo so you can check it out after i figure out how to.

I had originally planned to have the trim up higher, but actually like the woodgrain look of the trim so I'm going to leave it. As far as the upper trim, that will be covered by the canopy completely.
