So for Christmas I got a new camera. I got a Canon EOS Rebel T3 and have no clue how to use it yet. Lol. But woudl like some pointers on people with some photography skills. It came with a 55mm lens. What kind of lens should I look into to get closer shots?

Here are the new practice shots. All on auto of course lol

Doing a great job for having your camera for one day! Keep taking pictures. Go outside and walk around. Learn everything there is to know about your camera. You can read all day long but nothing beats hands on experience.

Happy shooting and reefing : )

P.S. Practice the "Rule of Thirds"

I am interested in a new camera and after seeing these pictures the Canon EOS Rebel T3 is ceratinly an option.

Well all those shot were on auto mode just to get a sample of how well pics can turn out. I took a bunch of classes in photography when i was in college but that was prior to digital cameras.

Im just trying to figure out which direction to go lol. Especially for photographing my reef close up.

I guess I have alot of reading to do lol. And figure out how to use a slr camera again lol

If you want close focusing for reef photography you can't beat the Canon 100mm Macro. The Tamron 90mm Macro is just as good as well. The Canon 60mm 2.8 Macro will work on your EF-s but you are much better off with the extra reach of the 100mm to keep you farther from the tank glass.

Yeah Im looking and reading. Ugh $500 for a macro. Maybe I should just setup a new reef lol

you can find them used the 100mm lens that is for about 400 bucks hey you could buy the 100mm L series by canon and spend around 900-1000.00 bucks..good luck and have fun with your camera ..
