New Camera, New pics.

SunnyX

Your tank was great before...now it looks freeeeeaking awesome:eek2: Love the way the colors POP!

btw...did you have to do any white balancing adjusting b/f you took the pics?

SunnyX - I showed my hubby your photo's on this thread and he thinks your tank is awesome and then proceeded to ask my why can't mine look as nice as yours (he's not interested in the hobby). He's also putting a new SLR digital camera at the top of the list.

Pics look great!! Do you shut off your pumps for taking the pics??....this pic looks like the water is still....I know that it is recommended to shut pumps off....

Half of the pics were taken with pump off and the other half with pump on. In the the pics where you see the water line the pumps are off. My water is so clean that it makes little difference in my pics. Many people recommend it because there may be small particles floating around.

No white balancing here. ;)

This camera is great, shoots great shots right out of the box. Pics were shot in portrait and landscape mode.

Sunny X.....hey man...I've been silently reading your posts, and looking at your AWSOME pics for quite some time now....

Just wanted to say from one very experienced acro reefer to another...job well done man! Your tank is stunning...and your knowledge of reefing is valuable....

I really like your tank more since you swapped out those 10K XM's for the 20K XM's...good choice! I run them as well as Radiums....

I see your a smooth operator now....don't have a bag of your own anymore.....?????.....LOL

How long have you had the HUGE Monti cap? Do you dose calcium? Its very beautiful!
I purchased the monti cap two years ago. At the time of purchase it was only the size of a nickel or quarter. Both orange monti;s you see started from the same small peace. I have had to frag the caps many times over the years.

For Ca supplementation I employ a Ca reactor along with a Deltec KM500 Kalk Stirrer. Along with weekly water changes I find that this is the best combo and method of adding and maintain the proper Alk and Ca balance.

To maximize the growth of you monti's, or any coral for that matter, they must be given a wide open space. This way corals can spend more energy growing instead of wasting energy competing with other corals.

Thank you very much for the kind comments. I too am enjoying the new "blue" look of my tank. I try to improve my life, and tank, everyday. As in life and reef tank, you never stay the same; either you are getting better or you are getting worse.

I always "have a bag of my own". :D

Sunny...Do you feed Golden Pearls or Phyto to your corals?

This may come as a surprise to some, but I feed NOTHING to my corals. The only thing they eat is fish poop. I find that Phyto and other additives do more to harm a tank then help.

My tank is proof that you CAN run a successful reef aquarium without adding anything in the way of Phyto, Golden Pearls or any other additive.

Keep it simple, and you will go far in this hobby. ;)

Those pic are really nice. i don't know if i like the pic's for the pic's quality or because the tank is so colorful. I'm just confused:). i'd like to ask a couple of q's?
1. you said you add no food for corals?
2. what additives are you adding to your tank? ie amino acid, marine supplements?
3. how often do you do water change?

Thank you. :D

1. I do not add any food specifically for the corals, the eat what the fish eat.

2. The only additive I use is Lugols Solution once a week. For Calcium I use a GEO Calcium Reactor along with a Deltec KM500 Kalk Stirrer.

3. I like to preform water changes once a week. I usually change about 40 gallons using Seachem Reef Salt.

I have read many good things about amino acids, but honestly my tank probably has enough in it from the fish and fish food.
