I dislike sand. That's CaribSea "Special Sea Floor" crushed coral that you see. The only reason I have it is for my Leopard Wrasse- otherwise I'd be totally bare bottom.

I like sand beds, I went too look for what you mentioned...did you mean Special Sea Floor sand? I could not find any CaribSea that was marked as special sea floor crushed coral.

Thanks.

Oh, I like how you have all your returns and water flow items pretty hidden I hope to obtain a similar look with the new system. Also plan on incorp. some PVC like you have only above the water line, there will be a hood so that should work out. Still do not have it all planned out, my overflows and returns are going to be on the back corners...have not decided on the in line system yet.

Anyway...this thread is about your tank and it still looks great.

that's the stuff, Kurt. If you're doing a DSB ( sandbed of 4" or greater depth) you might as well get the sand at Home Depot or Lowes, but I would never recommend doing a DSB inside the display aquarium itself- set up your DSB remotely (in a bucket etc.) and keep the display sandbed shallow.

Very cool. Mine is just starting to get a yellow back. I have noticed a huge spike in growth...Maybe these fish get a growth spurt during there color change.

mine is definitely having a growth spurt.
Too bad it's growth spurt isn't being fueled by the fish eating Aiptasia. Mine only nibbles at aips every now and then.
Loves clams, though :(

That is really nice how the pattern changes like that. Thanks for documenting it for those of us that don't have such a fish in our tanks.

hey- you're welcome, Marc. Good news:
it's not over yet!
Rather than try and choose what forum to post my pix I'm going to force people to visit this little corner of RC and hash through my thread :D
I've been having some really neat spawning displays in my aquarium the past few months. My Wrasses and Anthias perform their mating rituals just before dusk and I was lucky enough to get some halfway decent pictures this evening- check this out.

IMG_4213keeper.jpg

just before the lights start turning off the stage is set for some fishy business

IMG_4230keeper.jpg

the male Anthias starts getting excited and flashes his fins and colors

IMG_4249keeper.jpg

then he starts displaying in front of some females

IMG_4235keeper.jpg

Cirrhilabrus flavidorsalis gets into the mix- mostly to chase the Anthias away from his own spawning area

IMG_4253keeper.jpg

the male Anthias chases a female

all of this happens at meteoric speeds.

I must have gotten lucky (so far) I haven't seen any aips in a month in my display....So far my Dersa clam is untouched as well. I have almost had mine for a year now so I would hope this behavior doesn't change
