new "canvas"

Nice cover.

Do you mean that you left any coral skeletons in the tank and just putting new corals on top of them?

yes- coral skeletons are firmly grown/encrusted onto my rock. New frags will be attached and grown on top of them.

That's what I have been doing as well...and sometimes the old coral will come back. I have a birdsnest that dropped dead more than a year ago. It has been covered in nuisance algae, coraline algae etc. and just last month, a couple tips re-grew...now there are 3 full fingers in rapid recovery. It's kind of cool to see that happen!

natural reefs do build upon the remains of others and that's what I've chosen to do.

another cover!

glad to see your keeping things positive about the tank. those torches look beautiful gary!

and that is an amazing picture of the clown. glad to see reefkeeping has a good eye for nice pics.

"good". In fact- it protects it's host coral from things that would harm it such as many types of Butterflyfish and Crown of Thorns seastars. Cameras, too :D

this is the frag this colony grew from!

Wow! It looks like things are recovering nicely!

Great shots!

I'm definitely getting a trio of pyramids for the school aquarium.

 Great shots. So, is the tank rebounding pretty well?

showing signs of full recovery the past few weeks. I only do water changes on the weekends. 50 gallons a weekend. It's taken a while to flush the whole system and the corals now are showing the results.
Pyramid Butterflyfish aren't everything I hoped they'd be. Mine is strictly a planktivore- it NEVER picks at anything on the rockwork.
IME this species totally relies on the aquarist for food- making it less desirable than a Copperband Butterflyfish IMO.

I hope hurricane Ike isn't causing you any grief, Marc. We're saying a prayer for you folks in Texas.

This makes this species much less of a gamble for me, :) and I'll be ordering a trio this week to go into the QT tank!

I'm really gun-shy (probably overly so) on the "hit or miss reef-safe" fishes after my experience with my navarchus.

I really enjoy seeing the pics of your aquarium.

It really hammered Galveston and Houston, both on the coastline. However, those of us north haven't been bothered. Austin and DFW have just had some wind and some rain, but nothing that is even newsworthy. Thanks for thinking of us Texans. :)

Hopefully some news will come out of the MARSH club soon.

EDIT: Here's some news - http://www.marshreef.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewforum&f=1

EDIT again - UGH!: http://www.khou.com/perl/common/slideshow/sspop.pl?recid=12113&nextimage=0

Wow...I hope those guys are all OK...the MARSH forum is a bit scary. I thought you guys up north were still going to get major rain and flooding before the storm turned East...has that changed? No one is looting your local Wal-Mart yet?

:D Scott,
FWIW, I have had a Hemitauricthys polyepsis),Pyramid butterflyfish, for about 4 years. It does not bother any corals. It eats everything I feed:mysis, brine, bloodworms, cyclopeeze ,krill, spirulina flake, prime reef flake.

Gary just read your entire thread. Love it. Amazing growth throughout the entire system.
