New carpet dyed?

Hi,

How do you tell if a carpet is dyed? Here's some pictures of my addition. I have some suspicions but not quite sure.

Honestly, to me, it just looks as it is bleached.

It doesn't look dyed, but do you know that it is a gigantea, not a haddoni carpet? When they show gaps in the tentacles like that it can be a tough recovery.

I was told it was a Haddoni from the place that I bought it from. I've heard gaps in the mouth is a bad sign of a unhealthy specimen but I can't recall anything about gaps between the tentacles. Appreciate your input though....learn something new everyday.

Just took a closer look at it blue carpet. I am not quite sure now if it is a Haddoni. Do true percs host Haddoni carpets? I have three percs and they did not host my other two haddonis. Once I added this blue carpet, they hosted it within minutes of introducing in the tank. Does this mean that it may be a Gigantea instead?

I am leaning towards it being a Gig. Also a Gig is a natural host for Percs, so.....

I don't think it is dyed, but it is bleached, and from all the gaps and short tentacles (( assuming a Gig )) it looks like it is starving. Is its mouth tightly closed?

For reference, here is a picture of my health blue Haddoni, can see just how short the tentacles are.

The purple spots on the underside that you can see in the pic make a 100% id as gigantea. it is extremely tough to get one to survive, but not impossible. Looking around this forum for gigantea threads would be your best source of info. I would move it a bit from that haddoni if you can.

Good catch on the spots, I missed those. I also agree about moving it away from the Haddoni -- surprised they aren't stinging each other already. Another reason to move it is the different flow requirements of both -- Gigs prefer higher flow, where as Haddonis prefer lower flow.

Thanks for the info. I wouldn't have purchased the anemone had I known it was a Gig. The tentacles did not appear as long as they are now that it is my tank. I didn't know the spots on the underside were the difference between Haddonis and Gig. Now I do.
