new clam

i am going to get now 2 clam 3.5" size. i really don't know what brand or name they are . i want to know if to quarantine them or to put them in the main tank ? i will inspect they don't have snail or eggs . i want to know if i can put them on the glass in my QT or i will take piece of rock for my main display and put them on it.

I would suggest quarantine everything prior to placing in your main display tank !

Would also suggest doing some reading on Tridacnids before purchasing one.

How can we help you if you don't give us any information?
Clams require bright light, how bright depends on the species. There are diseases clams carry. If you have valuble clams already, you should be very careful when you add clams and not quarantine first.
Quarantine clams is more involving than fish due to their light requirement. If you don't have any clams in your tank, I would just add the new clams intoyour tank. Where to place them depends on the species, how much light, what kind of light you have over the tank, and how much flow you have.

in my quarantine tank i have pc light but 65 watt , power filter + power head, the water parmater the same as the main tank.

i start to drip water and acclimate them ( i do it with vinyl pipe drop very slow the water to the bag about 3-4 drop/s') .i also read about the clam a lot here and other forum , my main question is i f i will inspect thay are clean to put them in the main display or in the QT
(i always quarantine my new stock) the reason i ask it's because the light in my QT and if i will put them in the QT what will be the best way on the glass or on piece of rock.

Depending on how deep your QT tank is but with that lighting, being in there for a few days to a week should be fine. Overseas they do have days that there is no sun or little of it. After you take it out of quarantine and place it in your main display, be sure to acclimate it to your MH lights for about 1 week or so, as to not the stress it out or cause bleaching.

If you place the clam on the glass, you stand the chance that it may attach and could be difficult to remove but it can be done. LR would be a better choice IMO.

Give us a few pictures and we can ID them for you. Like Barry said, put the clams on something that you can take with clam in case he attach himself to it. You hould have enough light in your main tank for any of the clams. Put them close to light sorce under 65 W PC.

thank you for the replay here it's some first picture of the clam they are about 4" size i think they are the crocea but not sure. now they are in the QT there is no snail or sign of egg the shell look on both very clean . they don't open yet and i believe it will take some time.

All the images are that of T. crocea. This is the smallest of the Tridacna and require the most light. Under 250 W MH, they can go essentially anywhere. They look best when looking down from above, so I would put them on the bottom of your tank on the sand or the bottom of your tank if you don't have sand. They also would tightly attach to any surface that you put them on. I often put mine on the coral (like M. capricornis). Look in my galary, you will see some of the clams I had.

thank you for the replay. i look on your galary and must to say your maxima's look amazed.

my tank it's bare bottom , i think they will sit on this piece of live rock they are now.

now they are in my QT when you suggest to move them to the main tank with a less stress i want to put them back in this piece of live rock i hope they will not attach till i can move them .

My majestic angel did not bother my clams. I also had a Cherub and a Flameback angel in the tank. They were fine also.

the angel are my favorite but i am afraid they will pick from the clam , who know maybe one they i will try it.
