hey everybody, i purchased a maxima clam today,
it looks good, healthy, good coloring, but i had a question about the size of its mouth. this is my first clam, so i'm not sure, but its mouth seems a bit large? its roughly a third of the size of the whole clam, and i can see inside to where its gut and gills must be.... is this normal?
any help would be appreciated!

the images arent coming out sharp (i'm sure it has to do with the camera) but you can see the mouth on the right side of the clam. if i look inside, i can see the internal organs of the clam...
thanks,
Z.

thanks christhiam, its about 2.5 inches right now.
actually i think that the mouth isnt as open now as it was three days ago, so i'm sure its gaping is going down. its coloring is still good, so thats a good indication (i hope).
i still have to go and get some phytoplankton for it, i havent had a chance yet. any advice on feeding?

its hard to see but it looks fine from what i can see. good mantle extention, and the incurrent orifice looks normal

Feed the clam DTs that's what a lot of people recomend. I feed mine Kent's Pytho, I got my maxima about 1.5" and now it's 2" for about 4 months now. Try to get yours attached to a rock or a half shell just put it under. You can see a picture of mine in my gallery :)
