Hello. I just got rid of my tomato for a pair of black clowns which i believe are sebays. They have yellow mouth and yellow on the edges of their side fins. Here is some really bad pics. I would also like to know which anemone is best suited for them? I do have a RBTA in the tank now which they are not hosting now but the have only been in the tank 3 days now. The tomato went straight for it when i first put him in.

Is this the only thing they will host?

Clownfish will host what they want, when they want. Get a host that you and your tank can support and let nature take its course.

Too many people have this wive's tale in their head that because a species of clownfish is only found in the wild in a certain speices of nem that they will only host what they do in the wild. It is a falsehood, old wives tale, myth, etc, etc.

Awesome you learn something everyday.

hey ezhoops, what kind of anenomie is that in your avatar?
im looking for something like that, and it looks like your clown is already hosting in it.

where can i get that, and how much does it cost?
i'll have a 260 watt Power Compact light, is that strong enough?

So they may find and host in my RBTA that i already have in tank then right? If they decide to host in it is there any certin time. Like say if they are not hosting in it in 1 month is it most likly they never will or do they offten change or start host long time down the road?

Clownfish have their own personality. One can not make sweeping generalizations about them based on species, being WC versus CB, etc, etc, etc.

So yes and no they may host your BTA, so yes and no they move on to something else and yes/no they may host in a month or a year.

They will host in corals if they feel like it, but in the wild, the carpet is the anemone that saddlebacks most often host. So say the books. Not sure it really matters, maybe BTAs just aren't where they live.

I dont want them in my corals. I would rather consider a carpet if thats what they are used to. If they will feel better/happier in a carpet ill look into that. I just dont want them floating around like they are now and i dont want to watch them host in somthing wierd or unusal.

Look closely before you buy a carpet. I was just saying that is the most common anemone in the wild. The problem with carpets is that they will eat anything. Sometimes even the clowns that are trying to coexist. I have seen tanks with 1 or 2 carpets that are working great, but I have read several threads about carpets eating every fish in the tank. As with everything in this hobby, read, read, read, and then consider the pros and cons. For example, if the carpet eats your clowns, they won't be hosting in your corals.

seems like you and I are hanging in the same threads tonight.

that is a BTA, just a normal BTA that I got from LFS for $25 and your lights should be fine with a anenome like the one in my avatar. It split twice for me

YEA.. I saw that. Stop following me. LOL
Well i have heard bad about a carpet but i didnt know it was that bad.

Do some searches. I wanted one for my new 225 with my black saddleback pair, but I got scared away. I might get a BTA for them some time in the future but not sure. There are a couple of threads where the carpet ate tangs and other large fish.
